I feel sorry for Schapelle

Why

She made a bad decision.
Has been locked up for  a long time for what I do not consider to be a crime.

Her life has been fundamentally changed.
She will face intense media scrutiny.
The real punishment seems excessive, and the repercussions will not stop.

Many people have profited at her expense.

X2 agree and there is a reasonable chance that she was not the one responsible anyway.

Really?

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

I don't feel the slightest bit sorry for her getting caught and jailed.

While I'm pro marijuana legalisation and I don't respect Indonesia's harsh yet corruptly applied drug laws, my attitude to anyone trying to take drugs into/out of any developing country is, you roll the dice, you take your chances.

I believe (it's pretty bloody obvious) she was in business with her sister Mercedes and her brother, with Mercedes being the dominant player.

I think Schapelle was naive about the consequences of being caught but while she's not the sharpest bulb in the toolshed, she's intelligent enough to know what she was doing.

As to her family, they are directly responsible for the amount of time she spent in jail.

Had she plead guilty and STFU right from the beginning and her family not done a single media interview, she'd have been out in 2-3 years.

Oh well, they're stupid uneducated bogans.

Good luck to her.  She's done more than enough time for some weed.  She should be left alone to get on with her life.

Totally agree, the punishment was way over the top for the crime committed.

It might seem like easy money. It might seem like the locals do it with impunity. But don't deal any sort of drugs in Indonesia. Gaols tend to cost less to house the convicted than even the most frugally run household in Australia.

Rape victims have been convicted of some stupid laws for reporting to the police their gang raping whilst unconscious. Indonesians will give a slap on the wrist to terrorists. But, they will have no problem trying to milk money out of foreign governments over what we see as nothing more than undeclared shipping.

Oh, how about that. The Bali bombers were executed. But you still deserve an uppercut for lip.

I'm not going to post up article after article of stories about how easy it is for foreigners to

I'm not going to post up article after article of stories about how easy it is for foreigners to get drugs. I could not bother to post up links about how dealers will get away with dealing, whilst police will arrest someone or at least accuse someone for having talked to them.
