Re Gordon + others
My point is that we have the laws already in place, for example, for credible risk, in Australia, we can detain a person without charge for a certain period of time. Right?
The problem in this case, is that, in the hind sight, everyone is Einstein. So the question is, how do we adjust parameters of 'credible' risk - e.g. the threshold for detaining someone without charge. Now, in this case, sure, if someone had a time machine, and foresee this, he should had been locked up as soon as he is under suspicion. But, we have got to be very careful, because restricting someone's right for public safety is a slippery slope down to a society where we have more big brother type government, erosion into individual freedom, and big regulation, big spending type police state.
In another word, we have to tread very carefully. And I suggest, that when we making changes to laws that impacts on freedom, we do so, not in an emotional state - such as times just after a terror attack where children were killed. But rather, in a free and open manner where the issues are debated, and laws are made by sensible minds.
You have a valid point.
Perhaps the only reason our grubberment allow these parasites and animals into our country is to give them the opportunity and agreement of tge public to instigate draconian rules under a Machiavellian principles.
After howard, willing to murder so many people to get his gun laws through, I can see these political creetens allowing terrorism just to give them the ability to control the population even further.
What a disgusting bunch of worthless parasites they are.
