Oh stop being snowflakes about the middle aged white man comment.

*pause*

Now that you've stopped  being butt-hurt about it, ask yourselves if she was wrong.
Yes. Even amongst the same gender and race there are always different perspectives. It occurs during our upbringings. I find it bizarre that a Muslim and lover of Sharia Law would have an issue with groupthink.

I did so. You agreed with her that there was a need for greater diversity on the board ... then had a little hissy fit because you assumed she meant ethnic diversity.

I suppose i should be thankful you didn't play the gender card. Although i strongly suspect women are an afterthought to you.

She said behavioural scientists had attributed the explosion on the BP-operated Deepwater Horizon rig to groupthink and confirmation bias among key decision-makers in the lead up to the explosion that killed 11 people.

That bit is correct. If she thinks more ethnic diversity would have helped she is deluding herself. Crap like that happens regularly in China and India. We used to get upset if 100 people died. That we now get wound up over this sort of incident on the other side of the world just proves how rapidly our workplace culture is changing. She is the epitome of the empty-headed groupthink she is blaming.

Far be it from you to come across sexist or racist.

She was definitely referring to ethnic, gender & racial diversity

then she wouldn't have have had to be pretending she was a

"40 year old white guy".

It's complete load of luvvie psycho babble.

No, she wasn't. Stop being so precious.

Yeah - all 40 year old white guys act that way all the time - don'cha know that?  And just because their approach has worked for decades and resulted in one disaster - well - surely that proves they were wrong all the time, right?

Why didn't she act like a 40 year old yellow woman then, and see the change in actions and perspective?  While thing could've been prevented by using a different discussion method and by bringing in new blood to replace those with years of experience .... sure it could...

A Black lesbian in a wheelchair with no English from Mau Mau country could have done better!

A black lesbian in Mau Mau was a likely member of that board?

It was just a joke.

So precious about white male privelage are you, that you shriek  discrimination when the obvious is pointed out?

That be some fragile egos.

What's the matter? Are you feeling guilty?

Yeah, if everyone could stop persecuting the rich white males with vested interests, that'd be great.

Face it. Every single one of you.

This is not even a little bit about the message.

It is 100% about the messenger.

Shame on you all.

Why not throw in a few deluded hippies while we are at it?

Yes of course. Scientists and academics are synonymous with deluded hippies.

Ethnically diverse deluded hippies, i hope.

Scientists and academics are probably the least appropriate people for a board. They are specialists. A board member has to consider the broadest possible range of issues. It is the closest thing to being a politician in the private sector. If they don't have scientists on the board, it is because no scientists were qualified for the job. You don't need scientists on the board to get their advice.

You utterly contradict yourself. But you know that, right?

In any event, your first post in this thread was to agree with Yassmin about the need for diversity on the board.

What did you mean by diversity?

Yes FD, what did you actually agree with?

Just suggesting the absurdity of even suggesting that diversity would make a difference - what is this 'white male privilege' you are talking about, and where can I get mine in between all the affirmative action programs?

I haven't slagged the messenger - just pointed out the Jessica Rabbit position of Jasmin - I'm not really silly and make absurd biased statements and generalisations - I was just drawn that way....
