Two 'sob stories', that were presented in a court

Two 'sob stories', that were presented in a court of law

Q.
Should those who are guilty of criminally negligent behaviour or criminally reckless or irresponsible behaviour, face the 'due punishment', for the consequences of their behaviour,
particularly in instances where the lives of others have been damaged or destroyed [i.e. 'ended'] ?

Or should such poor personal behaviour be excused, if there are [or have been] 'extenuating' circumstances in the life of an accused ?

'Extraordinary' medical student spared jail for stabbing boyfriend
Conviction 'would ruin career' of aspiring heart surgeon at Oxford

Oxford University student Lavinia Woodward, 24, stabbed and punched her boyfriend during a drug-and-alcohol fuelled fight in September last year, The Guardian reports.

Crash killer, 15, begs for lenient sentence, blames 'bad childhood'

A 15-year old boy who killed a mother in a horror high-speed crash at the bottom of Adelaide's Southern Expressway has begged for leniency, saying he had a "bad childhood".

Mrs Tucker died when a stolen ute driven by the boy at high speed slammed into her car at Bedford Park.

I have no problem with forgiveness for wrongdoing, if real remorse and contrition [for the wrongdoing] is being expressed.

But how can we know that the contrition [for the wrongdoing] is real ?

And when in these instances, the 'repentance' is being presented in a court of law,
isn't it likely that this expressed 'repentance', is simply an attempt to have a reduced sentence imposed by the court ?

Q.
If we as wrongdoers are made to bear the consequences for our wrongdoing [in punishment], won't there be a better chance of real remorse and real contrition, for our foolish or reckless behaviour ?

Then there is Cocaine Cassie.

I'll bet that Cassie is very, very sorry.    !!!!!!

......sorry that she is in the predicament that she is in now!

I'll bet that Cassie has really repented!             Smiley

Don't you ?

Hohoooo man...going to jail might ruin her career.

The diversity points a female surgeon would bring are too valuable to be lost over something as trivial as a little stabbing.

Well yes, but it could be a lot worse.

The woman could be a Moslem.

Well, if she were to convert,       and she then chose to stab Jews, who would complain K ?

Not many leftist 'apologists', i would wager.

"She was provoked!   He/she, was a Jew!"
