Freedom  of speech  and expression  of thought  is a right hard gained by wars and sacrifice  in our immediate  past.

I may not agree  with  anything  mechanic  posts....but I  defend  his right to  post it and enjoy  debating  his ideas with him Cool

That...and that alone  is what  makes  Australia  so great !

Just try that in a muzzo country.

Yes, we used to say they had freedom.of speech in Indonesia and Turkey.

Not anymore, I fear.

More Islam, less freedom - the two cases in point.

Do not be afraid (to notice and say).

Not sure what it has to do with freedom of speech ?

He had a sign but there is no debate about the freedom of read.

If the guy really wanted to speak why didn't he bring someone to listen ?

Besides what did he think he would achieve by talking to that package of nuts ?

So I assume that you would defend Yassmin Abdel-Magied's Anzac day tweet and her right to openly discuss ideas?

The right of someone to openly express their views shouldn't be confused with a person's responsibility for what they say. The audience has a right to take the speaker seriously. If a person indicates they are danger by the language they use, they can fully expect to be taken seriously as a danger.

As long as it isn't Islamofascism.
Must not imply Islam is totalitarian or oppressive or barbarian.
I mean, free speech must be limited to acceptable things like " kill Trump", no?

Know the enemies of a civil society by their public behaviour, by their fraudulent claim to be liberal-progressive, by their propensity to lie and, above all, by their attachment to authoritarianism.

Gerald Fredrick Töben was jailed in 2009 by our high court for having the wrong opinion on history, thanks to section 18c and the HREOC.

Close to the mark!!

Quote:

For years now I’ve said that anti-free-speech leftists and the men who slaughtered the staff of Charlie Hebdo, shot up Lars Vilks’ event in Copenhagen, etc, are merely different points on the same continuum:

They’re both in the shut-up business: both groups find it quicker and easier and more satisfying to silence you than to debate you.

https://www.jihadwatch.org/2017/05/mark-steyn-the-poisoning-of-robert-spencer

Those who would shut down all 'contentious' debate [in order to shut down examination, criticism, scrutiny and who oppose accountability].....

.....intellectually, such people are simply wanna-be tyrants.

Truth......

They are the 'intellectual' equals, of those who are thugs and murderers !

Thats the way we are heading.

Its not so funny as you think

No it is funnier.

Stacked with stereotypes and not bad satire.. if it worries you,  you have got some serious problems.

Trump is a good example of a person who says one thing and does the opposite.

He denies, deflects and refuses to speak. The vid posted by Setanta is amusing and so clichéd it has to be funny.

Freedom of speech works both ways.. you don't like it?  You don't believe in freedom of speech.
