I always thought a pedophile was a pedophile.
A stalker is a stalker.

Quote:
paedophile

ˈpiːdə(ʊ)fʌɪl/
noun
noun: pedophile

a person who is sexually attracted to children.

Quote:
stalker

ˈstɔːkə/
noun
noun: stalker; plural noun: stalkers

    1.
a person who harasses or persecutes someone with unwanted and obsessive attention.
"Tracy claimed she was the victim of a stalker"
    2.
a person who hunts game stealthily.
"a keen fisherman and deer stalker"

Clearly they are not the same thing and clearly people can be stalked on forums.

That is not the legal definition of the term 'stalker.'

Stalking can be used in context from lighthearted to a serious offense. An example of how it's often used lightheartedly these days;

Hey I was stalking your Facebook yesterday and saw you went to that new Indian restaurant, what's it like?

I'm not aware of a lightheaded use of the term pedophilia.

Oh duh!

We were merely attempting to provide you with a watered down/easy to understand 'cabbie' version of it.

My daughter's only 10 so social media is only allowed with mum or dad there, but everyone STALKS their kids Facebook, except Instagram is more popular these days I believe.

I stalk my 2 older kids on both sites.

And I'm bloody glad I do! A few times I've had to intervene ie tell them to take their freaking pics of our house and our cars OFF these sites!

Do you consider your checking your kids social media to have very serious criminal implications?

Hell yeah!  Grin

Why?

I've told both of them they'll be dead meat IF I see them post any further pics of our home or cars on these sites!

They finally got the message... I think.

I still check (just in case)  Tongue

what about smearing a persons name.! gordy?

a place like ozpol is very close to a place like facebook...and people can do untold harm  with many lies or innuendos....you know what they say about a Lie repeated often enough....one gets an illusion of the truth..

stalking on the internet  is not acceptable behavior...of course fd has his own rules on this...but I think he should accept that this is a public place...and it should be governed by international rules

if you mentioned an Indian restaurant on face book...and did the same on ozpol..

you would more or less expect  comments.. so to comment is not stalking..

now if you mentioned on facebook  about seeing someone else in the restaurant.. [ Joe Blow and he was dead drunk] then you could be in trouble...

you are in fact talking about someone who may not like what you have said..

where do you draw the line on here.?
just because we are anonymous doesnt make us invisible......

Which part of this is beyond your ken, Grendel:

Quote:
Of stalking, the essential elements would be:

(a) a willed act by the defendant,

(b) which intrudes upon the privacy or seclusion of the plaintiff,

(c) in a manner which would be considered highly offensive to a reasonable person of ordinary sensibilities,

(d) and which causes the plaintiff detriment in the form of mental psychological or emotional harm or distress or which prevents or hinders the plaintiff from doing an act which she is lawfully entitled to do.
