Complaints about Malcom’s Terrible Muddle soar
May 11th, 2017 at 9:05am

What was a nation building project that would have boosted the economy is now a $59Bn (and likely more) waste of money good mainly at generating complaints:

Quote:
The Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN) has reacted with a barrage of criticism over a significant increase in complaints about services delivered by the National Broadband Network.

But the operators of the broadband network, NBN Co, have come out in strong defence of the network saying that the number of complaints have actually dropped when taking into account the number of active services.

ACCAN’s criticism, including comment on what it says are consumer complaints about “buck passing” between NBN and telecommunications providers, follows today’s release of the latest report by the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman.

The TIO has reported an increase of 117.5% in NBN-related complaints for the six months to the end of December 2016 compared to the corresponding period in 2015.

All NBN Co is good at these days is hiding information and duckshoving blame. The project should be on–budget because it will never make enough revenue to pay for itself because the copper cannot provide highspeed broadband.

MM coff up and get FTTH.

You whinge it is expensive - well now U know why Mal pulled the pin on Labor's ruddiculously expensive NeverBuiltNetwork because your expense would be multiplied millions of times with NO useful gain to the govt.  $200 billion is just too expensive.

Labor wanted a fiber optic cable into EVERY home because Labor wanted to be able to eavesdrop on any dissident because they wanted their NeverBuiltNetwork to be a Socialist Spying Network just like East Germany under the Soviets where houses where bugged and mail was steamed open.

Socialism wants to control and monitor everyone. Why Labor even tried to ban FREE SPEECH!!!!

{Yawn}

YouLiar wants to play.

1. The MTM is now MORE EXPENSIVE than FTTH

2. The MTM is taking longer to roll out than FTTH

The MTM also provides zero economic benefit to the nation. A congested mess based on Telstra’s rotting copper cannot provide any benefit.

The Libs want to monitor everyone that is why the Libs introduced mandatory metadata retention.

Go on, give me some real counters to that you moronic Lib propagandist.

This is a pathetic performance:

Quote:
The National Broadband Network brought in total revenues of $665 million for the nine months to the end of March — up by 142% compared to the third quarter of 2016 — with the number of residential and business premises now able to order a service reaching 4.6 million across Australia.

The latest performance figures for the network, covering the third quarter, were released by the network builders and operators, NBN Co, on Thursday with an upbeat chief executive, Bill Morrow, saying the company had turned in a strong performance and was “fast closing the gap” to full-year targets.

In addition to the 4.6 million premises able to order a service — up from two million and a 130% increase compared to third quarter FY16 — NBN Co also reported that premises with an active service over the NBN network surpassed two million.  This was up from 903,000 — or a 123% increase — compared to the 2016 third quarter.

http://www.itwire.com/telecoms-and-nbn/78059-morrow-upbeat-as-nbn-hits-$665-mill...

“4.6 million premises able to order a service” this number is way inflated with large numbers of premises unable to actually get a service (Service Classes SC0, SC10 and others.)

“Business premises” hate the FTTN rubbish, way too low bandwidth and way too many outages. CRAZY to put business, even small business and hospitals on rotten Tel$tra copper!

“active service over the NBN network surpassed two million” Less than half!

“total revenues of $665m” Wow, about 1/5th of those who will receive the NBN (≈10m premises) so total revenue is going to be about 3m a year. Against this there is maintenance of the copper and powering the copper. The rotten copper (and the HFC transferred to NBN HFC has suffered a big loss of performance) will not allow ARPU (average revenue per user) to be much increased. A lot of people on FTTN suffer a huge hit to bandwidth at peak times, down to 1–3mbps down for the LUCKY subscribers!

Then all those SC0, SC10 etc premises, the hard to rollout to, have to be connected and that will cost $quillions.

The NBN needs to be brought on Budget because it will never be able to repay the loans or capital. It will drag down croc’s beloved capital productivity. It is a waste of public moneys and Turdfull needs to be held accountable for this debacle!

Trying to raise ARPU, stuck at $43/mth the clowns at NBN Co look to business. Not a chance! FTTN is a joke NBN HFC is crippled. The MTM is a waste of taxpayers money and those responsible for need to be held to account!

The man paid $3m a year to lie about the NBN just lied again!

“CVC has nothing to do with user experience says Morrow”

http://zd.net/2r28o40

Of course it does: it is too expensive so RSPs do not buy enough CVC. This is why in peak times the NBN slows to a crawl in peak time regardless of technology used, FTTH, FTTB, FTTC, FTTN or NBN HFC. Netflix has made all this worse.

With a FTTP to 93% of premises NBN the CVC would be close to $0/mbps by now and more would be on higher speed plans. With mostly crap FTTN people are not taking up the higher speed plans because the copper can’t deliver them (apart from a few lucky “node lotto winners.”)

This means ARPU is not going to rise. This means the whole mess will need to be brought on–Budget some time. A complete and deliberate waste of $60Bn of public moneys.

My Gosh the politically correct Bammy is moved to poke the cranium around the corner of the smokescreen of political correctness and display a level of erudition rarely seen.

And the MM just keeps pumping out the Lefty Propaganda that he copies from the various Lefty Propaganda Sites he inhabits.

No surprise he doesn't know any FACTS.

MM coff up and get FTTH. If U can't afford it then how can the govt afford millions of times that much ?

I will have FTTH when I move to Tassie.

I am talking about the nation, about business having their growth throttled by Malcolm’s Terrible Muddle.

Even notice YouLiar never, ever addresses the substance of a post? Doesn’t have the brain power is my guess. Copy and paste and ad homs is about his speed.

The government could afford FTTH because:

1. FTTH is cheaper than FTTN/NBN HFC muddle

2. FTTH rolled out to 93% would return 7% to the government, paying for itself

3. Ubiquitous FTTH would generate jobs, GDP growth and exports and would be doing so by now.

FTTN/FTTC will need to be ripped up and replaced as soon (sooner really) as it has been rolled out. $60Bn just wasted! The biggest single waste of money ever in this country.

Quote:
. . .the problem goes beyond sluggish Netflix streams and slurred Skype calls. Businesses complain that slow speeds hobble their effectiveness and add to their costs. More broadly, Australia risks being left behind at a time when countries like China and India are looking to nurture their own start-up cultures to match the success of Silicon Valley and keep their economies on the cutting edge.

“Poor broadband speeds will hold back Australia and its competitive advantage,” said John O’Mahony, an economist at Deloitte Access Economics. A 2015 report by Deloitte valued the nation’s digital economy at $58 billion and estimated that it could be worth 50 percent more by 2020. “The speed of that growth is at risk if we don’t have the broadband to support it,” he said.

The story of Australia’s costly internet bungle illustrates the hazards of mingling telecommunication infrastructure with the impatience of modern politics. The internet modernization plan has been hobbled by cost overruns, partisan maneuvering and a major technical compromise that put 19th-century technology between the country’s 21st-century digital backbone and many of its homes and businesses.

Forget about startups,“agility” and innovation.

recently had NBN run through the complex I live in. In certain area they had to dig up the driveway to run new conduit across so that they could run the coax cable they're using. For a strip that was 300mm wide and about 4m across, the concreter charged almost $6k. The NBN guy said it was normal from tradies as soon as they heard it was NBN paying. You can almost do a driveway for that money if it weren't a govt. job.

He also said that if they were using the fibre optic cable, in most cases it wouldn't be necessary. Fibre optic is much thinner and more flexible so more likely to fit through the existing conduit (they have to run the new cable without removing the existing copper wires) and the existing conduit wasn't thick enough to have both. He also said the fibre optic was much more durable. According to him coax cable he ran just six months ago in ocean front suburbs is already rusting and will need to be replaced in a few years.

Coax. More copper—and the NBN HFC is worse than the Telstra HFC (or so I read in Whirlpool.)
