My Friend lived through WW2

a lot of people born before 1940 lived through WW2  Roll Eyes

Tell your mate to take the BS blinkers off

Veterans don't glorify war ... they usually don't speak of it.

They talk of their mates & the comradeship & the good things they experienced ....

and to pay respects to their friends & those who paid the ultimate price for all of us.

We should do the same ...... Lest We Forget.

How do these images NOT glorify war ?

Not only is your friend a d1ckhead &

so are you.

The event & march & those involved is not a glorification

it's a march to honour & pay respect.

I have been watching Anzac Day commendations for many years, and I wonder what yesterday's diggers, and probably many of today's men an women think of it.   To me, it has become a gawky stage show with loud music, stage lighting and expensive props.  The actual march is secondary to a hollywood style presentation and I think the true spirit of Anzac only now remains in the reunions where veterans can get together in privacy and reminisce.

The RSL is spending way too much on the stage show, money that should be going to veterans of all wars for assistance and to help many get through the minefield that is the DVA.  With so many in the top level of the RSL lining their own pockets with Veterans money, it is time Anzac dat returned to the simple march, well wishes from a grateful public and then the privacy of their reunions. This is the true meaning of Anzac

A few years ago I visited a town in WA that had an old church.
In that church they had a list of all the men who had died in WW1.
There were many young men on that list.

In WW1, there would have been fewer people in the town.
On average every home would have lost at least one son.
At least.

What a disaster.
there is no winner there.

there is no glory

No there is no glory.

And ANZAC Day doesn't commemorate glory

it honours/pays respect to those who served & those who died serving.

Give it a rest ... you & your friend are wrong.

If Anzac Day was intended to glorify war, it would have been established on the anniversary of Beersheba. Now there's some glory for you. But, yes, there is something Irish about commemorating defeat, and we inherited it. Vinegar Hill and all that. You will notice the French don't commemorate Waterloo, nor the English Balaclava. Anzac Day, while it commemorates such things as sacrifice, it also shows just how Irish we were in temperament during the 20th century, for all our Cockney and Norman manners of speech.

I don't believe that to be true.

If it was left to private reunions then all would be forgotten.

That would be very convenient to the agendas of some in this country.

Never forget the past or history is bound to be repeated.

We have much to be thankful for no matter what the reason men & women joined up.

A friend of mine things things such as ANZAC day glorifies war.

HE dislikes war.

To a degree, I agree with him.

How else can we celebrate the sacrifice of the young men and women who gave their lives so we maybe able to enjoy the freedom we have today....?

I am not a badge of honour,
I am not a racist smear,
I am not a fashion statement,
To be worn but once a year,
I am not glorification
Of conflict or of war.
I am not a paper ornament
A token,
I am more.

I am a loving memory,
Of a father or a son,
A permanent reminder
Of each and every one.

I'm paper or enamel
I'm old or shining new,
I'm a way of saying thank you,
To every one of you.

I am a simple poppy
A Reminder to you all,
That courage faith and honour,
Will stand where heroes fall.

Not all of them gave their lives willingly -
many were conscripted against their will &
forced to go over the top of trenches & charge enemy machine guns
in what was actually suicide.

You do realise, I presume, that many of the opposing forces at Gallipoli WERE Muslims.

And that they actually won.

And that THEY also honour our diggers and the ANZAC spirit - that's why ANZAC Cove is what it is today.

I don't think they, of all people, need a history lesson on Gallipoli, somehow.
