No - is is a sad day for many, with the only good side the honouring of those who took part.  Wars are terrible things, and large scale wars are the worst.

Australia, with a population of 4 million, had 60,000 men killed and 150,000 wounded in WW I - around one in twenty of the military aged men - or even less.  Entire villages in Australia were left with no men in The Great Silence that followed Armistice Day, and many carried the scars for life.

My uncle from Glasgow's mother had her husband killed leaving her and two young boys, my grandfather was twice wounded and declared unfit for full service in early 1917, but stayed to the end as a Battalion runner.  My father's uncle enlisted in October 1918 at age 21 and was discharged when the war finished.

I doubt they glorified war.  My grandfather used to sneak my brother and I into the brewery along the route of the march, saying to the man guarding the door that he was the night watchman and could he just bring his grandsons up to the first floor.  The guard knowingly winked.... and let us in...

But then Rhino says I can't tell a story..... how will I do my family history story?

I dislike war - I'm a pacifist..... this is not about glory - it is about sacrifice and loss and sadness.

No, it does not 'glorify.'  It allows Vets to have a day of their own as is their due, it allows people the opportunity to acknowledge what happened in War, and allows hangers on to romanticise and talk dribbling chit.

Of course they did not.

Does anyone here reckon that when the Anzacs arrived at those Turkish beaches under fire, or when they were whistled over the trench to charge into machine gun fire.....they were yelling 'Democracy' like Mel Gibson did with his 'Freedom' thing.

Really?

..........The RAAF confirmed two F/A-18F's will fly over Ipswich at 10.05am on Tuesday.

"As the nation pauses to remember this Anzac Day 2017, our aircrew and aircraft will be in the air supporting services across the country," a RAAF spokesperson said.

"All flypasts may be subject to cancellation at short notice due to air traffic control requirements, weather, and operational availability."

Tuesday's low level fly pasts for Anzac Day:

    Harrisville 8.26am - 1x F/A-18F
    Kalbar 8.28am - 1x F/A-18F
    Laidley 9.35am- C17 Globe Master
    Brisbane CBD 10am - 2x F/A-18F (1000), 1x F/A-18F (1100)

    Ipswich 10.05am - 2x F/A-18F
    Watts Bridge 10.41am - 1x F/A-18F
    Esk 10.43am - 1x F/A-18F

The RAAF have created an interactive online map for residents to find the best place to see the aircraft.
