A 12-year-old boy has escaped an attempted sexual assault after entering a public toilet in Sydney's south-west on Saturday night, police say.

At about 8pm, the boy entered the toilet in Bass Hill Plaza and noticed a man in a cubicle with the door open. He quickly moved to leave the facility but the man grabbed him by the waist and pulled him into the cubicle.


Police were told the man hit the boy across the head while trying to pull him closer.

It's understood that while the assault was occurring two men entered the facility, startling the man and allowing the boy to break free and run out.

Police were called and launched an investigation. CCTV footage was seized and police are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry.

oh god... the poor child...public toilets scare the hell out of me. when its comes to young boys...

they should put that mugshot on every TV channel
