I read the article.
Quote:
Our minds are made of molecular machines, otherwise known as brain cells. And if you find this depressing then you lack imagination, says Dennett.
"Do you know the power of a machine made of a trillion moving parts?", he asks.
"We're not just are robots", he says. "We're robots, made of robots, made of robots".
Our brain cells are robots that respond to chemical signals. The motor proteins they create are robots. And so it goes on.
The only one, single, real certainty we [human beings] are able grasp hold of, imo, is that
we are self-aware.
All other 'human knowledge' is merely supposition, built upon supposition.
And, imo, 'it', 'that' [supposition, built upon supposition], is our intended path here.
i.e.
It is our whole reason for being.
To wonder as a child, and to seek, .....and, to construct
our suppositions.
All of our collected, and 'accepted' suppositions [on an individual level] help to form
our beliefs [about what is true, and about what is real, and about what is 'important'].
And it is, imo,
our beliefs, which inform and direct
all of our choices in this 'life'.
On some days i make poor choices.
And on some days i make good choices.
And i meditate, upon why it was, that i made those choices.
And, isn't that why, i, the self-aware being, am here ?
I believe
that it is,
why i am here.
To meditate, and to build my 'mountain' of suppositions.
Proverbs 2:3
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
Proverbs 2:6
For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:10
When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
Proverbs 8:9
They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
Proverbs 18:15
The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
Psalms 63:1
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
