'It's crazy': Barnaby Joyce rubbishes ACT's renewable energy target

Canberra Times
March 28, 2017

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has rubbished the ACT's 100 per cent renewable energy target, describing it as "completely insane" on Tuesday morning.

"The ACT saying they want 100 per cent renewables is crazy," Mr Joyce told the ABC's AM radio program.

"That might be a policy setting, but it's also completely insane. It just doesn't work."

Mr Joyce had been asked whether the lack of a clear national energy policy in recent years had contributed to rising power prices.

He said the tendency to set "aspirational" and unrealistic energy targets had not helped the problem.

"So what we have to have is that the Labor party have to stop listening to the Greens and start listening a bit more to common sense," Mr Joyce continued.

Last year the ACT government set a target of using 100 per cent renewable energy within the territory by 2020.   Smiley

Just one year before they had set a target of 100 per cent renewable energy by 2025.

Shane Rattenbury, the ACT's Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, hit back at Mr Joyce in an open letter posted to Facebook.   Smiley

"Let's talk about crazy for a moment," Mr Rattenbury began.

"Crazy is denying the benefits of the ACT's investments in renewable energy projects across the country, including the Sapphire Wind Farm, which is coming soon to your electorate of New England.

"Crazy is denying the at least $10 million and up to 200 construction jobs this renewable project will bring to your local community.

"Crazy is ignoring the impacts of climate change on rural communities, including more severe droughts, bushfires and the loss of productive farming areas.

"Crazy is throwing good money after bad by investing in coal when we know that renewables will secure our clean energy future."

Mr Rattenbury added that the ACT was proud to have set itself such a tough renewable energy target.   Smiley

"In the ACT we are well on the way to achieving our 100 per cent renewable electricity target by 2020, by securing contracts for around 650 Megawatts of new solar and wind generation," he said.

"We're proud that the ACT is now leading the country in clean energy, showing leadership when our Federal Government has dragged its feet.

Yes but the GAY LEFTY capital knows they are still connected to the coal fired power network so they are safe when their renewables don't renew.

It is the same as solar on a house where the house is still connected to the mains.

That reminds me - where the hell is longie?  We've got juliar, and he nearly fills the gap, but for pure madness.. we need a true expert.

Oh - 100% renewables in the ACT?  Well - it's only good policy to set a fair aiming point and then go for it... if they fail by 30% - still a big win....

The Lefties are again displaying their gross ignorance of technical matters which are all just Greek to them.

Obviously when the GAY LEFTY state is still connected to the coal power grid then a week of overcast windless weather doesn't matter as the power is supplied from the network.

Similarly for a house with some solar on the roof which is still connected to the mains. Power is ALWAYS available from the ever reliable 24/7 coal power network.

But the technically obtuse Lefties will NEVER be able to understand all this technical stuff as it is just too hard for them.

Now wait for the Lefty copy and dribble scribble that the intellectual powerhouses LW and Mr Smith excel at.
