Multiple PV system at once
Mar 23rd, 2017 at 4:39pm

Hi All,

I just got 5.2kw grid connected solar system to replace my old 1.5kw system.

I wanted them both up there but they said that 5kw was my limit.  I still have the old 1.5kw system , was going to sell it.

Anyone know if its legal to have 2 inverters installed ?  or any other limiting regulation BS that would stop me ?

I cant give you a link, but I do remember the rational behind limiting the amount of solar each house can have.

Some restrictions were in the pipeline.

Do you want to connect it all to the grid?
https://www.solarmarket.com.au/why-is-there-a-limit-to-how-much-solar-we-can-con...

Perhaps you can have a separate non-grid circuit for heating/aircon for eg and use it that way?

To get the feed in tariff your limited to a 5kw inverter , your allowed to go to 6.55kw panel array.

Thanks for the info.

A also have a small PV System with a battery bank, it has been a hobby for many years, just big enough to run all the lights in the house and charge the phones/tablets/remote batteries etc.

I might use a few panels to scale this up a bit,  maybe use it to run the downstairs fridge or something.

There are some interesting new ideas regarding block/neighborhood level systems where arrays and battery storage are shared between multiple houses.

Doh!  can't post links,  just Google: SA power: 'World's largest virtual power plant' switched on at West Lakes in Adelaide

Makes you wonder what we could do with bipartisan support
We are a rich, small country with lots of sunshine.
We could be world leaders in 5 years.
Mal keeps harping on about innovation, but has dropped the ball on this.
