no different to religious retards whinging if someone made a porn where the actors had sex on a cross.

the thing to remember is that no matter what someone does out in the public sphere, there will always be someone who whinges about it. That's not political correctness, that just people with to much time on their hands.

In a university environment you could mock white Christians unchallenged where you can't even incorporate anything tribal for a bit of fun without getting slammed.

and in a retirement home you can mock anything tribal unchallenged where you can't even incorporate anything religious for a bit of fun without getting slammed

Does your mum's retirement home have cowboys and Indian parties?

my mum's too stubborn to go into a retirement home.

But upon closer examination, “political correctness” becomes an impossibly slippery concept. The term is what Ancient Greek rhetoricians would have called an “exonym”: a term for another group, which signals that the speaker does not belong to it. Nobody ever describes themselves as “politically correct”. The phrase is only ever an accusation.

PC was a useful invention for the Republican right because it helped the movement to drive a wedge between working-class people and the Democrats who claimed to speak for them. “Political correctness” became a term used to drum into the public imagination the idea that there was a deep divide between the “ordinary people” and the “liberal elite”, who sought to control the speech and thoughts of regular folk. Opposition to political correctness also became a way to rebrand racism in ways that were politically acceptable in the post-civil-rights era.

How convenient of The Guardian to flip it on its head! The idea behind political correctness (or whatever term you want to use here) starts with the radicals of the 1960-70s. The outrage against racism, sexism, misogyny etc, begins with them. This was probably well intentioned. However, fast forward a few decades and it has gotten to the point where anything said against left-wing approved 'victim' groups is viewed as 'racist', 'sexist', etc. The term 'political correctness', therefore, may have been coined by the right, but the ideas driving it were created by the left.

Yep. This is point it has got to from the 1960-70s. There's a dissertation or 50 in how it got to this point.

That's a very handy 360 used by the Politically Correct to further their attempts to shut people up or shut down reasonable debate of contentious social issues. Roll Eyes

who is Mr or Mrs Political Correct??

who believes they know more about the human race than anyone else??

isnt that what they are saying when they write lists of ..good words and bad words...

has nothing to do with how they are said  in what context..or atmosphere...

no you dont use that word anymore or else!

it happens on here all the time..

example.

I used the word ABO...cant remember where or when

but out they came to pour scorn  on me...calling me the naughty PC names..we are not allowed to use to others..

the righteous ones they know who they are.. Cheesy

not long after   I saw where at least two ltards... yes that word is PC on ozpol.. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

used exactly the same expression..

did the PC crowd  arrive to shoot them down.??

not at all... Grin Grin Grin.. fancy even thinking it would happen...

PC is in the narrow minds of someone

who is Mr P.Correct.........

maybe gweggy his part time job maybe... Wink

Don't be so sensitive and weak Gnads. Just because someone has a differing opinion to yours it doesn't mean that they are trying to "shut down debate".

You have pretty much just paraphrased what the guardian said.
The civil rights era was in the 60s-70s and racism and sexism has ben rebranded as "non politically correct"

Remember when bigots used to say " I'm not racist but...... (insert racist comment)"
Now they say "even though it's not politically correct (insert racist comment)"

I've got a fancy dress party next month.

What can I go as that won't be classed as cultural appropriation or offensive?

It's not racist if you say you're not racist, Barnacle.
