A shame the article is biased by only giving Barnett's views. The media in this country is far too right wing.

Dear O dear .... There goes the neighbourhood.

"The poll also showed a marked drop in support for One Nation, which peaked at 13 per cent at the start of February, but dropped to 8 per cent in the wake of the preference deal with the Liberals and ongoing problems with candidates".

Reading the comments on the Australian.  It's pretty odd that they seem to disregard the poor statistics that Barnett lead for 2 cycles and claim labor will do worst.  It does remind one of "doing the same thing and expecting a different result" as a definition of insanity.  Clear trending downwards on economic indicators but believe libs are doing a good job?

It is nothing short of astonishing , a measure of good government should be how they deal with the tough times , the harsh reality is the libs have failed on a state and federal level monumentally , the numbers are clearly there for all to see .

Let's not forget that one of the world's most powerful and long-term national leaders with university degrees up to her armpits invited 1.5 million Muslims to come trooping into her country without any thought for consequences, racial and cultural compatibility, and their already woeful reputation for criminality and wilful unemployment in other Western countries as immigrants and refugees.

And then we had the UK's Tony Blair on a mission to swamp the British homeland with so many immigrant foreigners that it would .. Quote: "Change the face of Britain".

The Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd circuses.

Not long now.

Another 4 to 5 hours and it should be all over.

Polls close in 90 minutes.

I'm hoping for a result by about 8:30/9pm, and then a victory speech from Mark McGowan.

Hopefully he'll pick up 14 seats.

Bill Shorten is here, to cheer him on, but there's no sign of Turnbull or any other prominent Libs - they've all abandoned Barnett   Grin

That's what they're saying ~ that people who supported One Nation and it's stated policies did not want Hanson to re-position them as Liberal voters.

Don't you support Representative Democracy?

In a poll respected by everybody it found that 49% of respondents want Muslim immigration stopped.

You can call these people any name you want, but the fact remains that we live under a system of Representative Democracy in which everybody has a voice at the ballot box.

Polling booths have just closed.

Set for a Labor victory, with a 14 seat gain.

Pauline will win ZERO seats.

WA went into a dive? they were in debt in the middle of the boom with this incompetent government. They were being thrown money left, right and centre, and still they couldn't help themselves

As I have said here once or twice before.

If it wasn't for the unpopularity of the Julia Gillard Federal Labor government at the time, Colin Barnett's mob would have been thrown out 4 years ago at the last WA State Election.

I know State and Federal politics are supposed to be separate issues but I guarantee the majority of voters don't see things that way.

Anyway, goodbye (and good riddance) to Emperor Barnett and congratulations and welcome to Mark McGowan.

That reminds me of something interesting I read today - Turnbull was threatening to withhold funding from WA if the new Labor government cancelled certain Liberal infrastructure projects. McGowan's calling Tunrbull's bluff because if that happens, McGowan will be sure to remind the voters of this every chance he gets and there will be five marginal Liberal federal seats in danger in WA.

Whoo-hoo. Labor's Cassie Rowe has won the seat of Belmont from Liberal Glenys Godfrey. Cassie took the time to promptly reply to an email I sent her a couple of weeks ago where I raised a few issues about the cost of living for people on lower incomes like myself. She (or someone on her behalf) was doorknocking that day and I wasn't home at the time.

I really think Glenys Godfrey (who is also a former Mayor of Belmont) shot herself in the foot with her ongoing 'crusade' to get rid of a lot of public housing in the area.  She claims there is too much public housing here compared with other suburbs and she wanted a 'balance'.

She even sent a letter to every public housing tenant in Belmont/Rivervale trying to explain her reasons. Yep, I bet that had the desired effect. NOT!

Guess who all the public housing tenants probably didn't vote for today?

And, Mr. Barnett - when you pee off nearly the entire State with increased charges... electricity, gas, water, car registrations, putting up the qualifying age for the WA Seniors Card, not increasing income limits for public housing tenants/people on the waiting list for nearly 11 years while you spent enormous amounts of money on things like a sports stadium and Elizabeth Quay then you really shouldn't be surprised when you get tossed out of government like you were today.

Now Mcgowan has to pull money out of his arse to fix the debt problem. Barnett has left the state with a crippling debt burden. Mcgowan will have at at least 2 terms now, unless hes as profligate and corrupt as Barnett and his cronies, which I doubt.  Personally, I like Mcgowan, ex military, family man. Still lives in the bogan capital of Western Australia. Genuine person with a social conscience, unlike Barnett who should have been put on a burley hook himself like the scheme he came up with to bait sharks. History will judge barnett badly, and it should.

Good luck with that.

Around 95% of Liberal voters nationwide vote 'Liberal' because they have always handled the economy WAAAYYY better than the State of federal Labor parties - always have and always will. The Labor parties are the party of Victimhood, the willfully Unemployed, the whingers and the moaners, the irresponsible and the bludgers.

Still lives in the bogan capital of Western Australia. Genuine person with a social conscience, unlike Barnett who should have been put on a burley hook himself like the scheme he came up with to bait sharks. History will judge barnett badly, and it should.

Kim Beazley in an interview the other day predicted that the economic benefits of the recent upsurge in mineral prices will be flowing through to WA society around 2-3 years from now.

If true, this is a particularly fortuitous election win for Labor.

You keep telling yourself that if it helps you to sleep better at night.

Barnett's government got tossed out because he DIDN'T manage the WA economy well. When Howard was enjoying the benefits of the mining boom at Federal level, we had Labor governments in every state and territory. Who gets the credit? When the Fraser government was tossed out of power in 1983, we had double digit inflation, double digit interest rates and double digit unemployment. Is that good economic management or bad economic management?

You have rocks in your head if you think taking money out of the hands of people who spend it in the local economy and giving it to people who stash it in offshore tax havens will somehow boost the local economy. Let me clue you in - it DOESN'T.

The Greens got almost twice as much as One Nation, which tells us that the WA voting public is full of sh!t. These are the people who want to de-industrialise WA and the First World nations so the Third World can do a bit of catching up with their own coal-fired industries.

Yes, Mcgowans economic management is however unkown and Barnetts only solution was to privatise assets. The deficit is still there.

And not only her... Look at the scare campaign the big miners launched against the state (federal and local) to stop a tax increase on metals sales... Virtually blackmailing their own fellow Australians via a threat to shut down mines and put people out of work.

Well, we're wearing the same boondoggles on this one...

But don't just focus on WA's answer to the 'Ewing' family... They all used their financial power against Australians.

What has appalled me today was the TV news which informed us that Chinese investors in home properties in this State of NSW can buy-up 50% of properties being sold on the market.

Under certain political regimes that sort of treachery would attract the Death Penalty by firing squad.

Our politicians and law makers are not on our side.

We already have enough Absentee Landlords by way of Greeks, Italians, Maltese, and Indians who have returned home to live out their lives without paying the full tax burden to our government coffers.
