Art Banned at Ozpol
Feb 26th, 2017 at 12:02pm

Aussie, in Relationships, banned all posts of Zurich-born artist Andrea Hasler's work, saying they would not be tolerated elsewhere on Ozpolitics. Yes, her work is visually jarring, but does it need to be banned?

then lets be fair dont foist it on others...

I am amazed anyone would even seek out things like this.. I always ask what sort of drugs  was this artist on at the time of creating these....horror of horrors..

I dont think they had stuff like that in Amiytiville did they???

Art appreciation needn't be limited to what you'd personally display in your home.

I remember 40 years ago or so, when a reporter asked the chief censor why we needed censorship.

And he said viewing pornography made people perverted.

To which the reported asked, and as you view all the material does this make you the most perverted person in Australia.

That was back when reporters were good

Cods, I also wouldn't let my daughter watch Pulp Fiction, doesn't mean it's not a great film. Art doesn't always have to be pretty.

Further, AiA did not post it for any claimed artistic value.  He posted it as a deliberate abusive slight against a Sub-Forum and its Moderator with whom he is having his own little on-going unilateral War, and he is mightily pissed orf that he is coming second.

I think it is visually very ugly and I can see what the artist was going for, but he/she failed to either shock nor present a work that was either interesting or worth looking at . Thats just me.

It's an instillation, you can hardly judge it from a computer screen.

I think we'd better limit Ozpol art to flowers pressed in doilies.

You've got to get past the idea that all art is made to look pretty and is made to be displayed in a private home.

Some stuff is made solely to make people say what the bugger!

Have any of you guys or gals been to MONA, in Hobart?

If the stuff in the OP offends cods, she's not gonna like MONA.

I suspect the 'Wall of Vaginas' would make her faint.

Personally, I love MONA.  Been there many times.

If you ever visit Tassie, it's a must see.

And, the art in the OP: not my cup of tea, but I don't think it should be censored.

Go to Hobart and check out MONA - you'll love it.

Nice little boat ride from Hobart to the museum, and once there you can view the exhibitions, have a meal and a drink or two, and even enjoy some jazz out on the lawn.

The 'Wall of Vaginas' is called something else, but I can't post the title here.

There are some amazing exhibitions at that place, and the building itself is amazing.

It's carved into the ground.

I deleted it as crass in my Lounge Room.  That is where I decide what is 'art.'  Life's a bitch, isn't it.

How on this planet can some crap tent image/structure made up of some pretend flesh which has been through a pretend mincer is art is way beyond me, and it never will be.  Did anyone even buy that trash object?

Art is not creating some dumb thing and then post facto pseudo intellectually claiming it is a reference to suffragettes when there is absolutely zero obvious connection.....other than.....it is a tent.  So's this:

...

Art?  Far cough.

We all react differently and have different thresholds. You like to be confronted right up to your limit, right?

The art in the OP didn't even make me blink. My first reaction was to want to know what materials were used.

So's this:

Art?  Far cough.

Lots of people miss it.

It's only in one toilet (as far as I know), and it's not labelled or mentioned in any official museum literature.

However, if you pick the right toilet you'll know about it.

Let's just say, it involves mirrors and a pair of binoculars.

I haven't been to MONA in Hobart, but it is definitely a place I would like to visit.   I guess the art in this thread is designed to shock and stimulate conversation.    I still can't quite get over the dress Lady Gaga wore to the Music Awards in 2010.  That to me was extreme, and most probably very uncomfortable

"At the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, American singer Lady Gaga wore a dress made of raw beef, which was commonly referred to by the media as the meat dress.[1][2][3] Designed by Franc Fernandez and styled by Nicola Formichetti, the dress was condemned by animal rights groups, and named by Time as the top fashion statement of 2010.

The press speculated on the originality of the meat dress idea, with comparisons made to similar images found in contemporary art and popular culture. As with her other dresses, it was archived, but went on display in 2011 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after being preserved by taxidermists as a type of jerky. Gaga explained following the awards ceremony that the dress was a statement about one's need to fight for what one believes in, and highlighted her distaste for the US military's don't-ask-don't-tell policy.

I am not quite sure what the dress itself had to do with Clinton's "don't ask - don't tell" policy.

Actually I have none - I just like to shock by dredging up a nice piece of art for you occasionally.  the purpose of art is to awaken thought in the viewer - it seems to have worked in this case, but the result, though predictable, is disappointing.

Ffs Karnal, how many times do I have to tell you.  It was on the oval. We slipped out during the blue light disco and I slipped it in.

Nonsense. It was on the bus. You were playing football on the oval.

And you most certainly did not slip it in, you pashed her off.

I'll have you know poor Cods is a married lady.

Karnal, if you really want to ask question about mens penises, join a gay chat room, or better still, try a steam room in Oxford St.

Aussie, I have posted the images on "the main board" and have not gotten banned. What do you have to say for your censorship?

This.  You do it again at Relationships in a similar context in which you did it, the outcome will be the same +.
