Why?

Why do parents put photos of their kids on Facebook?

Fricken idiots!

http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/kids/mums-fury-as-sons-chickenpox-pic...

Facebook users really amuse me.

They put up photos of what they had for lunch (who the fvkk cares?).

They tell everyone in the world that they're on holidays (thus, their house is empty and just begging to be broken into).

They post fake news.

And they put photos of their children up on the internet, and then whinge when people copy them.

Very strange people, you Facebook users.

I have to agree with you there.

I have never been a user or fan of facebook.

But some people seem to think that everyone is interested in how often they change their underwear and what the eat.

We might be missing something in our lives.

Possibly an insecurity or mental illness perhaps?

I have a niece who virtually posts just about everything personal in her own immediate family.  If her (retired) Brigadier Father got wind of it, there would be great and frenzied activity with the delete button.

It's something that really fascinates me.

A couple of friends of mine said to me recently "you know first thing in the morning, when you wake up and check Facebook ... "

No   Undecided

Since then I've discovered that lots of people do just that, though.

As soon as they open their eyes, they reach for the phone or tablet to see how many 'likes' they've received overnight (or how many new cat videos have been posted).

One of my friends takes a picture of every restaurant meal she orders, and posts it on Facebook.

It's gotten to the point now that I turn down invites, as I just don't want to go through the whole photo-shoot process.

Okay, that's my 'grumpy old man complaining about social media' rant for the day.

Facebook is a data gathering organisation. That is how it makes its money.

I did have a “community group” page “Friends of the NBN” and that was fine, no personal info, well over 500 members/friends whatever, a reach of 2000 or so. Then FaceBook started demanding I tell them my name and a copy of an ID document to prove it was my name.

I told them to shove it and they suspended my account.

I have that very problem with my daughter.

It does my head in at times.

Nearly everything that happens in her day/life is put on FB.

I use Facebook but not to that degree.

Jesus, really!?

Just another reason why I will never have a Facebook account (or Twitter).

My Facebook list is set so only close friends can see my photos, so when I upload a photo of dinner or kids or the dog, they're people who when I see face to face we often end up discussing what we uploaded.

And friends/relies overseas, it's nice to watch each others kids growing up despite the distance. Without FB they'd just be lost to you.

Is it?

I'm sorry, I just don't get that.

When I visit my relatives in Europe every few years, I like the surprise of seeing how much a kid has grown, or how fat a cousin is.

I enjoyed watching my own kids grow up, but I have no interest in seeing others grow up.

Everyone seems to want to know what's going on in everyone else's lives, 24 hours a day.

That's not for me.

Sure, particularly friends who had kids around the same time as I did and now live far apart.  I love to see their regular updates.

It's just a tool for sharing and how it's used probably well reflects the personality of the person using it. There were over-sharers long before Facebook so you're really just complaining about a digital version of something that's always been around.
