I have always been very careful when insulting senior public servants.

Because quite simply, it is the senior public servants who are the true parasites of the Australian public service.
Not the poor day to day bloke/shela.

Many public servants are honest, hard working and oppressed individuals.
It takes a very specific kind off A hole to be a manager in the public service and the higher they slime, the bigger the a hole they are.

Like any industry there will always be those that slack off, agreed?
Why should the public service be any different?

But also there are many hard working public servants.
I could not work under the conditions and crap that some work under.
I did some work consulting with the ATO years ago and Ill tell you true, it aint all beer and skittles.
I sat in on a phone call and was amazed at the vitriol and course language used against the ATO person.
If it had been me, I would have told them to piss orf and hung up.
But that is not how it works apparently.
Imagine doing that for 8 hours a day?

Then there are the truly valuable Public servants.
Soldiers, ambulance drivers, police and many others without who society as we know it would not function.

Im not asking you to tell me.
But think back on your daily grind.
Do you put in a full day, every day, with no ME TIME?
Ill bet you don't.
If you do, you must be truly amazing individual, no one else I have ever met could say that with a straight face.

Having worked in both public and private I found not a lot of difference. More corruption and overall probably less work done by many in private enterprise.

Some people work very hard in both and many are a lazy waste of space in both.

Private enterprise certainly puts on more extravagant 5 hr lunches, golf games, the pretence of work from home and the yearly junkets. I found all of this to be more rare in the Public system.

This thread seems to be a place where people of somewhat limited intelligence can come to indulge in a bit of uninformed public servant bashing.

Over the years I have worked in large companies, statutory authorities, the Commonwealth Public Service and the NSW Public Service.  The Public Service does have some staff who don't pull their weight (but then so does everywhere else) and the majority do and there are some who perform work well beyond what is expected of them.  Some of the hardest working staff I have had were in the NSW Public Service.

And the slackest lot of workers I have encountered?  They worked for an engineering and construction company.

And if I had an employer who had not granted any pay rises for three years, I think I would be a bit wary about agreeing to work extra hours.

How else will the work get done

to determine what concessions they made to have their current hours listed as "normal hours of work" registered in a legal & binding document/industrial agreement.

Across all companies & industries there are EBA's - Enterprise Bargaining Agreements.

Not one would be the same in it's conditions & hours of work.

In fact the company I work for is the parent company of 2 other companies involved in the exact same industry & all 3 have separate/different EBAs.

It's a ruse by the parent company to screw employees into EA's with longer hours & less pay .... for doing the same sort of jobs.
