If you knowingly keep money that isn't yours then legally that is considered stealing. even if it's a Bank error.

A few years ago I found a thick wallet placed on top of a gas pump. Like a fool I gave it to the attendant rather than spending the time to be sure it was returned intact. While I was never tempted to keep any of the money the attendant may have done so. It had at least two forms of ID, several credit cards and a large amount of cash.
