Ahhhhh the Senate
Feb 16th, 2017 at 6:49am

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/opinion/andrew-bolt/andrew-bolt-scrap-brok...

PARLIAMENT is now so paralysed with self-interest that our politicians cannot save us from the debt crisis we’re hurtling towards. The Senate, especially, is so broken that many members seem to look after themselves and not the country. More on Nick Xenophon below.

Two signs of this crisis came this week.

First, the Turnbull Government cannot get the Senate to agree to just $1 billion a year in welfare cuts in its “omnibus bill”.

I say “just” because we hand out more than $160 billion a year in welfare, even though the federal gross debt is closing in on $500 billion.

We can blame the government for not doing a better sales job. But the real problem is a Senate that’s been corrupted.

the senate hasnt been there for Australia for years...

The coalition has been there for Australians for years, just looking after the big end of town!

The Senate is doing exactly what it is designed to do.

Putting Government Legislation under Scrutiny!

Tony Abbott blocked an ETS which both the ALP and Coalition took to the 2007 election....Any talk of mandates and being elected to rule was trashed by Abbott who did not even support his own parties policies taken to the election!!!

Greens leader Bob Brown says the minor party was right to block former Labor prime minister Kevin Rudd's emissions trading scheme (ETS) because Julia Gillard's carbon tax is "so much better".

The lower house of parliament on Wednesday passed the Gillard government's carbon price regime, and it's expected to sail through the Senate by November 21 with Greens support.

Senator Brown says the climate debate's been tough, but the Greens was right to block Mr Rudd's scheme to reduce carbon pollution in 2009.

"There's so much more in this legislation - it's certainly been worth it," he told reporters in Canberra.

The sick Senate is largely a result of Malcolm's dithering at the last election.

They need to again tighten up the Senate entry conditions to stop ratbags getting in who are only looking for an easy well paid job and pushing their own wheelbarrow.

These Senate ratbags have very little understanding of the Australian economy and only block things to try to feel important and to be noticed.

What has that got to do with Abbott trashing Labor's mandate, a policy they themselves took to the 2007 election....Lets also not forget Abbott trashed the policy once he was PM and ensured Australia's energy future would be always tainted by climate change denialists like Turnbull!!!

"There will be no carbon tax under a government I lead", said Julia Gillard. Then, when she won office by the slimmest of margins and only with the help of the Greens, she introduced a carbon tax. You, like the ALP, have no credibility on this topic.

Well LW, there is no doubt U R an expert on lies.

Wonder when Mal and Pauline will call an election ? They seem to be already campaigning for the big one after slaughtering Shorty.

Probably after Pauline cleans up in WA and Qld.

When is SA state election cause it will be a pushover for Pauline after all those windymill blackouts which Shorty wants to spread to all over Australia ?

Really? That's the best you can do? He made some promises based on information released by Labor pre-election that later turned out to be completely unrelated to the truth and was unable, therefore, to follow through with his promises. That doesn't make him a liar. It makes him a victim of Labor's lies and incompetence. Not that I'd expect you to understand, let alone agree.

Climate change is a cumulative effect based on total output not emissions from one source or country...No ETS will stop climate change without collaborative action....Tell me how the Coalitions policy will stop climate change Einstein???
