things you admire in millenials
Feb 13th, 2017 at 3:39pm

1. more of them take care of their bodies than my generation, with planned fitness, non-smoking, eating.
There are many exceptions of course and I hope it's all not just another fad.

2. young women don't as a rule take putting down crap from people, don't let themselves be condescended to like women once did. I'm old enough to remember, for instance, when women would stand outside a pub waiting for their husband to bring them a drink. Can you believe that?
I hope this is generally true and not just a misconception on my part.

Know the enemies of a civil society by their public behaviour, by their fraudulent claim to be liberal-progressive, by their propensity to lie and, above all, by their attachment to authoritarianism.

the male picked the girl up from her home and delivered her back after the movies....then if he missed the last bus he walked it.. the young men didnt have their own cars in my day,..lolol.

I've read recently that millennials don't like gambling at lot, they are not addicted to casinos. Probably they choose video games Smiley

I am Gen X - er who was, until recently, part of a team at work that consisted of myself and 3 Millennials. They are gone and I am running the show. Never again.

What is the age group for millenials? Does it include people around 20-25? If so that would include a couple of my sons, they may be looking after you in hospital or your national security. You'd be in good hands with either in their field. Youngest, RN, is a bit like I, is a bit of a politically incorrect lefty, he cares for for people deeply but doesn't give a rat's about irrational "feelings". 1996 Middle son is working with the MIC to secure our battlefield communications. Oldest 1988 I'm guessing is outside that millenial thing.

obviously, people born on the cusp of any generation probably don't fit the mould

I know some good ones then and not at all greedy but a little conditioned to what we gave them, consumerism. I've tried to talk it out of my kids though.

Although as a generation I can see they "expect" more than I ever did. It's a part of the consumerism thing. New car, I've never owned one, New or big house, mine have been modest. We do want our kids do better than we do though. I still tell the youngest.. Aircon! Why?

I feel so sorry for them that we 'the people" could not provide them a chance in life. They're buggered.
Nowhere to go now.

A man can't be a man and a woman can't be a woman. Women don't respect men and men don't respect women. Neither can buy shelter for their children.
They rely almost totally upon their parents to leave them some wealth.

They need to suck up and dismiss themselves in order to provide for their children. They will never know a genuine, natural life...only what they are told to believe.

"Millennial" is as much an insult as a descriptive term these days.

Why so insulted by this term?
It seems to me that they have no guts and no nouse to fight themselves out of the hole that they find themselves in.

They are a product of their own selfishness. You can only rely on parents to give so much. The will to fight for something useful needs to be something ingrained that a parent can be proud of.

Bullshit, I wish it was easy for you to meet my sons. No they are not all their generation but they are representative if their friends are anything to go by.

Like always, "give me a child until he is seven and I will give you the man". If children are selfish and self seeking, that's what they were taught to be.

If you want to understand Millennials and where they find themselves you won't spend the next 18 minutes a better way:

You should tell your children that you are happy with how hard they tried and how good trying to be best is, not that they have done great, you are the best etc. Make them happy wanting to try, strive, even if they didn't win. Never tell them they are the best, you are great, you are a winner and let them rest on that.

Striving is better than winning, there is always a goal, they are never there yet. Don't be afraid to tell them when their performance sucks but tell them they need to try harder and you'll help them.

Are we there yet? Never.

my daughter was born in '95 so she was caught at the generational cusp. yet, she spend the first 11 years of her life in Japan so is mostly unlike her American peers ... and with a Japanese mother she was never coddled or told how special she was ...

This is all true Amadd. They are the generation who were  brainwashed by television, technology and social media while their parents were mainly absent because of work.

Their reality is completely different to previous generations. They don't respect the opposite sex that much, although I'm not sure their parents' generation did either.

social conditioning and the mass media and group think will all produce an "apathy" and a "desire" to follow the path of least resistance , if a child is not handled correctly by his/her parents.

the level of apathy and the desire to just 'pleasure oneself' serve the mass market and you can bet all the social conditioning that kids recieve will be to make them more and more "addicted to laziness".

the only way onto the "narrow road to success" is to seek out evolutionary pressure, go into the fire of the harsh reality of life, and be purified by it.

for most of recorded history, you didnt have to go and seek out the pressure, the pressure just came ...war, depression, famine, death.

now, if you want to grow and if you want to climb the "narrow road to success" , YOU have to put the evolutionary pressure on yourself and YOU have to put the evolutionary pressure on your kids.

most people are too busy pleasuring themselves and durping around to do this.

a war, famine, environmental catastrophe will probably be neccessary to "make" people get out of this lower consciousness and start the journey.

you can still make the journey now, but you WILL have to swim against the tide and you WILL be rediculed for it.
Those who are addicted to laziness and to taking, will howl you  down for exposing them as inferior men.

Still, it is a journey worth starting and if you can teach your kids to focus, be emotionally mastered, accept the harsh reality of life and just keep hustling on regardless, they have enormous opportuinities today because most people are completely weighed down by laziness and lack of passion

Yes women are more feisty in general now..
My girl is one of these women..women are not shy and retiring anymore..most women.

My son is exactly the person you describe here..gym, health and fitness, no drinking or smoking and he is 20. His mental health is also important to him. He is taking up Muay Thai, supposedly very effective form of martial art. Times are changing.

Don't take this the wrong way but your son sounds a little boring.

edit: We had a SA lad stay with us for 6 month while he studied here, on of my son's friends, he was into gym, health fitness etc as you say your son is into, he would go do his workouts at the Uni gym, come home cook the same "special" diet every night, drink his protein powder etc. All very well but as nice a guy as he was he was a little on the timid and boring side and wondered why the girls didn't go for him.

Feisty girls and timid metrosexual boys, not a plan for success.

The other night my 10yo daughter said she hates her legs. I though ooops body image issue.

Why do you hate your legs sweety?

They don't have enough bruises.  I haven't played any rough sport for ages and all the bruises and cuts on my legs have healed.

I said well your starting Oztag next week, that should help?

Yeah but that's a week away.

I gave her a playful roundhouse to the thigh. She said owwww, that hurt.....will it make a bruise? Go to sleep and when you wake up if you're lucky,  you'll have a nice fresh bruise to take to school.

My kids hit the lottery when it comes too looks.. my girl is good looking but is not feminine..she can be a ball breaker- and I do lament sometimes. She can be hard work and she does not make friends easy.

My son is also quite good looking and yes he is at Uni goes to the Uni Gym, does the protein powder and high protein diet..to get that shredded body you have to Set. Wink  He is a metrosexual but not timid..he will take your head off if you get in his face. Girls are drawn to him..so not everyone can be typecast. He works in his spare time off from his course, so neerrrrr   Tongue

1. more of them take care of their bodies than my generation, with planned fitness, non-smoking, eating.

Yes women are more feisty .

Be nice Gordon?

She wasn't happy. It didn't even leave a mark.

Cork her in the thigh next time. She'll love you for it! Grin

In the same place where I flick her with red rubber bands?

There are plenty of fitness junkies who aren't nice, boring males and attract women easily. Most young females are attracted to good bodies and bad men. Personally I think this body sculpting fanaticism is a bit over the top and wonder how these physically perfect males are going to keep up this vigorous regime when they're in their 50's and 60's.

They won't but youthful optimism is a wonderful thing..its not his body that they like so much, but he wont believe that, so he keeps  counting his reps/stamina increases and spends way too much on this goal. When I think of the things he could be pre occupied with I am thankful it is health rather than substance abuse of some kind.I do worry about all of the protein he consumes though.

He will grow out of it- youth is all about phases and ideals.

The generation I mixed in - very atypical I'd have to admit - drank hard, smoked hard & everything, ate irregularly and badly.
But at that time I was an angry young musician.
(Now I'm just an angry old man)

But hey, look at me now, I'm fit, no major health problems, no dementia unlike most of the younger people I argue with here. But I gave up the bad (or good) life in my late 30s.

So is all that looking after yourself worth anything. They don't get the daddy of all hangovers I guess.
