This thread is a further compilation of reported NSW Health incidences and complaints, as they occur, now and in the future. It's not about Public or Private healthcare per se, nor party politics, but just the mishaps that we all should know about to make us aware of the possibilities of them happening to yourself, your relatives or your friends ... indeed, anyone using the NSW healthcare facilities

We are now in the post Jillian Skinner era, with Bradley Hazzard shuffled into the portfolio of Minister for Health and Minister for Medical Research. The new Minister needs to check the credentials and quality of senior medical staff, doctors and head nurses etc, and weed out the dudds. We can only become "Worlds Best" if both the equipment and the personnel are top quality

It will be satisfying to me if this thread is never a particularly long thread, because that will mean there will not be many reported mishaps to post in here, and that the new minister will be doing his job properly, disciplining Area Managers and Hospital Managers to put patients first, instead of the politics of healthcare and politics within health institutions. Politics before patients has, in general, been destroying NSW Healthcare. Under Skinner, politics was more important than the human side of healthcare, patients always came a poor second, most of the time, patients were just objects within a paradigm of strategies and healthcare finances



This latest link can hardly be the fault of the new Minister, it will take a while to get NSW Health back on track after Skinner's appalling tenure. But further mishaps, if any, will be squarely on Bradley Hazzard's head

Plans to seize North Ryde home

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard has confirmed he plans to seize a home owned by Mr Acharya in North Ryde worth a reported $1.5 million, taking back wages earnt from working in the state's public hospitals.

He said money from the sale of the home would go towards recouping the wages paid to the fraudulent doctor by NSW Health, which brought Mr Acharya into the country in 2003 on a skilled migration visa.

"We will be doing everything we can to recover the cost of the house so taxpayers can get their money back," Mr Hazzard said.

Another privacy breach I suggest needs urgent attention in public hospitals is the flagrant disregard for the privacy of women in mixed wards.

We can appreciate that the lion's share of health funding must go towards keeping the bureaucracy overstaffed and maintaining the lifestyle of upper & middle management, but do the ladies have to endure the kinds of embarrassments not to mention fears I hear about.

I sympathize with the new Health Minister, Brad Hazzard. He has an enormous job overcoming the disgraceful legacy of his "could care less" predecessor Jillian Skinner. He has a tough job, and I congratulate him on clamping down on doctors who use illegal drugs in their after hours leisure time ... telling them: "Get out of NSW Health"

Unfortunately the bad news continues ...

This is an older story I missed but still important today because I don't believe this hospital in the Central West has sorted itself out. It was and I believe still is the worst Public hospital in NSW. Try to avoid getting medical attention there if you live in the area, book in at Bathurst, Dubbo, Katoomba for operations and prolonged stays, anywhere but Orange

Orange Public hospital is a place of employment, medical quality comes in at a very poor second. If you have no other option but to attend this shambles of a so-called hospital, get in and get out quick

An elderly cancer patient has been left covered in bruises after she was allegedly violently restrained and robbed of money by a nurse at a Sydney hospital.

The 77-year-old woman was recovering from surgery at the Bella Vista hospital on March 16 when a worker is said to have gone into her room.

Police allege the female employee rummaged through her belongings, taking two credit cards from her wallet.

My note: During the Super Saturday by-election campaigns, we heard "we need better hospitals".

It's not better hospitals we need, it's better hospital management and staff supervisors that we need, and need right now, it's not too much to ask

The Healthcare Minister needs to instruct management and senior staff to become more strict with basic medical procedures to avoid accidents and fatalities. I've mentioned this before but it seems nothing has changed

Just the other day, a female patient was given someone elses details sheet in a Sydney hospital, it was only given brief mention in the news.

In another thread I expressed my opinion that patients might be subjected to a stranger's details regarding the National Health Records if they opted to stay in it. It doesn't matter though if it's the National Record or the record in Woop Woop's hospital, records can and do get mixed up - be aware

One would hope that the Minster Brad Hazzard will get a bit more serious about NSW Health, but I'm losing faith in him as being the strong and dedicated minister I thought he might be at the beginning of his tenure, but after being in charge for 19 months, unnecessary mistakes are still occurring 

Hazzard has now put his name to a "Health Lunch", not a "NSW Healthcare Lunch" - and that corruption of using NSW Healthcare for political fund raising, as he and the Premier are doing, should be rejected for the devious sleight of hand that it is, not to mention their incongruous attitude towards NSW Healthcare - politics before healthcare

Heartbroken mother says daughter was sent home day before she died from meningococcal

A heartbroken mother says her teenage daughter was sent home from hospital just a day before she died from meningococcal disease.

Mischelle Rhodes, 19, died at Gosford Hospital last week from an unconfirmed strain of the disease.

The young woman’s mother, Anjini Rhodes, called an ambulance for her daughter on Tuesday, when she began feeling unwell.


She was sent home later that day with

Panadol and Nurofen

. Her condition worsened and by early Wednesday morning Mischelle was back at Gosford Hospital.


Tragically, she died that night, and Anjini says she wished she was more forceful with hospital staff.

I guess what she meant was that she should have asked the doctor more questions or asked if her daughter could remain in hospital for observation

"She had symptoms like sore throat, sore neck, high fever" - If these symptoms were simultaneous and seemingly out of the blue, It would take more than Panadol and Nurofen to fix them

The spokesman for the hospital said it was an unknown strain of meningocccal, but a hospital that sends you home with just Panadol and Nurofen probably knows nothing about any strain of meningococcal

Doctor drugged, assaulted NSW woman

A doctor has been accused of drugging and indecently assaulting a patient at his practice in Sydney's inner west.

Detectives on Friday searched his Auburn medical practice and Rydalmere home where they seized several items.

He was arrested and as a result of ongoing investigations, three other victims were identified, police said in a statement.

My notes: It can't be stressed too much how important it is to have harmony within the staff in hospitals. Complaints about bullying and harassment should be non-existent. The Minister needs to step in and find out what's going on and come up with a permanent solution to eradicate ill treatment of staff by other staff members, even if that means sacking a few people

My note: Sentinel events have come down in number over the years but still happen with most apparently being medical instruments being left inside patients after surgery, and ....

NSW Police told Yahoo News a police operation has now come to an end after “a threat” was made and the hospital was evacuated as a precaution at about 11am.

A Sydney GP has been found guilty of having sexual intercourse with patients in his care at his medical practice.

Sharif Fattah used his position as a doctor to prey on female patients while working at Camden Health Care Centre over a six-month period from September 2016.

Sixteen women, aged between 19 and 40, gave evidence against Dr Fattah.

An investigation has been launched after the wrong side of a man’s bowel was removed at Sydney’s scandal-plagued Northern Beaches Hospital last week.
It is understood the mistake was made due to an error in a pathology report from a privately contracted laboratory.
The patient has since returned to the hospital for further surgery to rectify the mistake.

Two of his patients have died, he's under investigation by the Health Care Complaints Commission, he was suspended from practice.
Now the Medical Council has lifted the suspension but imposed an extensive list of restrictions on his registration. But it's up to surgeon Dr William Mooney's patients to find that out for themselves, and even if they know where to look, not all the conditions are disclosed

Non-emergency services at NSW hospitals could be thrown into chaos next month when 22,000 workers walk off the job demanding better security after a spike in violent attacks on staff.

The Health Services Union (HSU) warned patients to expect delays to routine services when paramedics, cleaners, administration staff and security guards hold a four-hour strike on August 1.

," the union boss said.

Over the last two years there's been incidences of opioid drugs being stolen from a number of Sydney Hospitals - 608 from Westmead Childrens hospital, 562 from Randwick Childrens Hospital, smaller quantities from other hospitals

The reason given by the NSW Health Minister is that doctors leave the drugs lying around.

My notes: Yes well I suppose if they're left lying around some people might be tempted to shove them in their pockets. Why are they left lying around Minister?

Sydney doctor charged with sexually touching patient

A doctor has been charged with sexually assaulting one of his patients during an appointment at his home.
Police said the male patient, 28, went to the home of the 53-year-old doctor on Tuesday for a follow-up appointment.

While at the unit in Brighton Le Sands, in Sydney's south, it's alleged the doctor inappropriately touched the man during the consultation.

Police arrested the doctor yesterday at his home, and he was taken to Kogarah Police Station where he was charged with sexually touching another person without consent and possessing a prohibited drug.

My Notes: In my opinion, people in the medical profession who are gay should be officially registered as being homosexual and made to inform patients of their genetic anomaly before any treatment begins. Patients have the right to know, for obvious reasons

It was a heartfelt promise by the Premier in 2017, to a sick teenager to lower the cost of hospital parking, yet revenue in the past year has surpassed $38 million for Sydney alone.

Nine News can reveal $38,262,000 was collected in hospital parking revenue in 2018-2019, with Western Sydney – consisting of Auburn, Blacktown, Cumberland, Mount Druitt and Westmead hospitals – being stung the worst, shelling out $13,790,000.

Man charged after alleged assault of cancer patient outside hospital

About 10.15am on Friday, a 35-year-old man, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, left the hospital in Darlinghurst for a break.
While he was seated outside the hospital a man approached and asked for a cigarette.

After refusing the request, the man allegedly took hold of his arm and threw him to the ground before punching him a number of times in his stomach.

The assault continued as the man grabbed hold of the patient's IV tubes and ripped them out before repeatedly kicking him in the stomach.

The Health Services Union (HSU) said one security guard suffered concussion after being slammed to the ground, while another suffered deep bite wounds to his shoulder.
A third staff member broke five ribs and tore cartilage, while a fourth is being assessed for a possible broken arm. A fifth sustained numerous bruises and cuts.

How in the world did NSW Healthcare let this happen?

Two people have been fired and banned from working in healthcare after faking their medical credentials.

Titilayo Oyedele and Oladele Eluwole, both originally from Nigeria, both worked for NSW Health in pathology roles for a number of years.

An investigation by the Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) found they had lied about their experience and pulled the same stunt in the UK years earlier.

Ms Oyedele arrived in Australia in November 2014 and since then has held various positions as a Technical Officer and Hospital Scientist at NSW Health Pathology. (with fake credentials)

A complaint was made against her, alleging she gave two patients incompatible blood during a transfusion. (wrong blood type)

NSW Health said the investigation confirmed she was responsible for one of the adverse incidents cited in the original complaint.

"While the error could have been life-threatening, as the patient was in the High Dependency Unit at the time the patient was able to be medically stabilised," a spokesperson said.

How is it that NSW Healthcare only just found out that the credentials of these two Nigerians are fake. Were the credentials checked before they were employed by NSW Healthcare?, if not, why not?

My Notes: Isn't a parking area supposed to be integral to a Hospital? It is, but now it seems it's not. They're becoming revenue raisers, and staff are parking in the street to avoid the fees which bite into their pay

There's something fundamentally wrong with this move, workers being charged to park in their own facility's carpark, a Govt carpark, now making money, for maintenance Brad Hazzard was saying.



This move is asking the healthcare workers to a pay a tax to towards their own public workplace, technically that's what it is, a tax, which the public should be paying for, that's the principle of Public funding and Public facilities, which are for the Public of the State of NSW. But getting the workers alone to pay extra taxes for their workplace is like saying to them, "User pays", but they don't "use" the Public facility, they work in it, and the carpark is part and parcel of "working in the facility"


Read this Gladys, and Minister Hazzard, you're in the wrong. Maintenance of the carpark is to be paid for by all the people of NSW, not just the few healthcare workers who work there, for heaven's sake

It's been quiet in here for the last five months, not much to report, that might be a good sign

This one is the sentencing of a drug addict who punched a security guard, then caused a nasty injury to a female nurse in Sep 2020

He avoided jail, even a light jail term ....

What happens if he doesn't go off the drugs, just let him go at the end of the supervision, and forget about him?

We pay for all this drug chaos medical and court case business, and we're not even told what happens if his rehabilitation is unsuccessful

Are illicit drugs taxed, so the proceeds can go towards medical and court fees? The female nurse required 16 stitches in her forehead

Why should the rest of us have to pay for everything that is the fault of drug addicts who consume illicit drugs? Our money seems to be wasted in the fog of the drug war

The war is the longest duration war in the Universe's history and governments budget for it in the same way they budget for Defense - eternal spending forever with no ending.

It's time the drug addicts pay for the damage they cause, lifting the burden of us ... and it would make the druggies think twice about taking drugs

My note: The Premier, some time ago, said "Well just have to live with Covid", then restrictions were eased and the State was opened up ... yet, this distraught daughter, trying to be by her dying mother's side, came up against jurassic jack-booted Public hospital nazis .... inhuman, no-compassionate and non-empathetic dictators, only interested in their pay packets

All Public hospital staff need to be educated in the art of being human ... after they've learned what the word "Public" means

Except the Public hospital system is paid for by who? ... the State's taxpayers, that's who ... it's not free

A third of the NSW Annual Budget goes to Healthcare ... that's a lot of tax, and we need to be vigilant. Some of that tax should go towards training staff at all levels to be compassionate and empathetic. All too often they only think of themselves, and what they can get out of it in the way of a job and pay. Patients and their loved ones come a poor second
