Victim tried to extort money from accused gynaecologist and when he refused to pay, victim went to police

Ex-gynaecologist bailed on rape charges

By AAP
4:09pm Sep 3, 2019

A former Sydney gynaecologist banned from practising has been released on bail after police accused him of raping a patient eight times.
Richard Ian Reid, 77, is accused of sexually assaulting a patient 13 years his junior while she received medical treatment at his Edgecliff practice between 2010 and 2014.
He was arrested and charged on Monday before a Waverley Local Court magistrate granted him bail on Tuesday on the condition he live at a Central Coast address, report daily to Toukley police, surrender his passport and not approach international ports of departure.
Reid won't be released until a surety of $50,000 had been posted.
He was found guilty of professional misconduct in September 2018 by the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal, which ruled there were several problems with his treatment.
The tribunal also noted he misused academic titles and mislead medical authorities about other matters.

Watch Four Corners tonight Mon 9th Sep 2019 8:30PM
"Health Hazard"

30sec Introduction Video
https://www.abc.net.au/4corners/health-hazard/11482518

"You'd be forgiven for thinking you were in a third world country." Wife of patient

The documentary includes a young man with an infected toenail, in the care of feral rural doctors, eventually transferred to Sydney, but too late for a competent medical team to save him - died from crook toenail

"Medical staff say it's time to speak out about a series of catastrophic incidents where patients have died or been permanently disabled."

"Preventable deaths and terrible injuries have occurred because of the treatment patients have received"

Perhaps that should read " the shocking treatment" patients have received

A Current Affair tonight ...

'Just luck people haven't been killed': Inside hospital violence crisis

By A Current Affair Staff
2:27pm Sep 18, 2019

A former security guard in our hospitals says it's just luck people haven't been killed yet, as guards and union bosses plead with governments to help them combat the violence in our emergency departments.

Another, Rob Dykstra, detailed the violence he'd endured on the job.
"I've had black eyes, I've been slammed against the wall," he said

This is another report broadcast on TV but not found on the Web

Over the last two years there's been incidences of opioid drugs being stolen from a number of Sydney Hospitals - 608 from Westmead Childrens hospital, 562 from Randwick Childrens Hospital, smaller quantities from other hospitals

The reason given by the NSW Health Minister is that doctors leave the drugs lying around.

My notes: Yes well I suppose if they're left lying around some people might be tempted to shove them in their pockets. Why are they left lying around Minister?

Charges over deadly gas mix-up at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital dropped

By Freya Noble
7:32pm Sep 27, 2019

In 2016 at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital nitrous oxide was confused for oxygen and administered to two newborns. John Ghanem died, and Amelia Khan was left with permanent brain damage after the mix-up.

SafeWork NSW today dropped the charges against the South Western Sydney Local Health District, where the hospital falls.

Instead, all hospitals in the area will undergo a half a million-dollar safety overhaul in a bid to ensure the tragedy never happens again.

https://www.9news.com.au/national/bankstown-hospital-gas-mix-up-charges-dropped-...

My Notes: This incident has a cost a life, cost an infant proper brain function, the cost of legal proceedings for charges to be laid, court costs, cost two families the joy of having children, and now a half a million dollars of taxpayers' money for a safety overhaul at hospitals .... all because a gas was connected to the wrong outlet when a contractor wasn't properly supervised

Two extra minutes spent checking the connections would have save a baby's life, and saved another from brain damage

The hospital staff apparently took it for granted that the gas they were using was the right one - it wasn't - did they have some way of checking the gas first? - possibly, but failed to check it, causing death and maiming

Sydney doctor charged with sexually touching patient

By Freya Noble
3:53pm Nov 7, 2019

A doctor has been charged with sexually assaulting one of his patients during an appointment at his home.
Police said the male patient, 28, went to the home of the 53-year-old doctor on Tuesday for a follow-up appointment.

While at the unit in Brighton Le Sands, in Sydney's south, it's alleged the doctor inappropriately touched the man during the consultation.

Police arrested the doctor yesterday at his home, and he was taken to Kogarah Police Station where he was charged with sexually touching another person without consent and possessing a prohibited drug.

https://www.9news.com.au/national/brighton-le-sands-doctor-charged-with-sexual-t...

My Notes: In my opinion, people in the medical profession who are gay should be officially registered as being homosexual and made to inform patients of their genetic anomaly before any treatment begins. Patients have the right to know, for obvious reasons

Nurse told dying man 'stop being dramatic'

By AAP
6:12pm Nov 29, 2019

Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital

"A nurse has been suspended for six months after being secretly filmed saying "stop being dramatic ... you're not going to collapse" to an elderly NSW patient who died an hour later."

"Ignored, he made a request about 9pm for a bedpan."

"So concerned was the patient's roommate that he covertly recorded the nurse for 20 minutes - a tape the NSW Civil Administrative Tribunal described as "disturbing" on Friday."

Sydney hospital visitors coughed up $38 million in parking fees

By Danielle Post • Reporter
8:46pm Dec 3, 2019

It was a heartfelt promise by the Premier in 2017, to a sick teenager to lower the cost of hospital parking, yet revenue in the past year has surpassed $38 million for Sydney alone.

Nine News can reveal $38,262,000 was collected in hospital parking revenue in 2018-2019, with Western Sydney – consisting of Auburn, Blacktown, Cumberland, Mount Druitt and Westmead hospitals – being stung the worst, shelling out $13,790,000.

Boy died of burst appendix ... doctor repeatedly said it was gastro and did no further exploratory testing. Moral to this story - Get second, or even third opinion when things are getting worse or taking longer to fix than they normally should

Dead boy's mum says GPs word isn't gospel

By AAP
5:40pm Dec 13, 2019

A NSW mother of a 13-year-old boy who collapsed and died after his appendicitis was twice misdiagnosed as a gastro virus says doctors need to lift their game.

"Don't just take your doctor's word as gospel because those days are gone," Michelle Degenhardt said on Friday.

"We can't do that anymore."

Luca was examined twice by Dr Paul Bilokopytov at the Nelson Bay Medical Group surgery in the week before he died and diagnosed as suffering from viral gastroenteritis. The GP did not order pathology tests.

There hasn't been any major healthcare problems to report in here for five months, which is a good thing. However, I've seen some less serious issues reported on TV that didn't involve injury or death, Coronavirus aside.

This one is about the conviction of a subcontractor who connected the wrong gas to an oxygen port in 2016. He was fined $100k

Hospital subcontractor fined $100k over gas mix up that killed Sydney newborn

By AAP
5:47pm May 8, 2020

Christopher Turner was on Friday convicted in Sydney's Downing Centre District Court over the fatal mix-up.
Newborn John Ghanem died in July 2016 after he was ventilated with nitrous oxide - commonly known as laughing gas - from a gas port labelled "oxygen" in Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital's operating theatre eight.

This is not about NSW Healthcare but it demonstrates how dangerous our society has become.

Cancer patient bashed and kicked outside Sydney hospital for not giving attacker a cigarette.

Man charged after alleged assault of cancer patient outside hospital

1:34pm Jul 11, 2020

About 10.15am on Friday, a 35-year-old man, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, left the hospital in Darlinghurst for a break.
While he was seated outside the hospital a man approached and asked for a cigarette.

After refusing the request, the man allegedly took hold of his arm and threw him to the ground before punching him a number of times in his stomach.

The assault continued as the man grabbed hold of the patient's IV tubes and ripped them out before repeatedly kicking him in the stomach.

Well it certainly demonstrates how some pieces of filth manage to exist in society. After he gets out of jail, this guy should be banned from receiving government benefits for life. I shouldn't be paying taxes to support scum like this.
