What the girls are representing is not a mainstream generic Australia, but an aggressively non-assimilationist Islamic Australia. Their own Islamic scholars say the hijab is not a religious requirement, but an idiosyncratic affectation similar to waving a flag of allegiance.

What 'the Right' should do is crowdfund a counter-poster that itemises what Islam supports as part of its religious manifesto.

THAT would upset the progressive-luvvies and the Muslim community a lot more than the original removal of the billboard.

In big letters.

You certainly got the "triumphant" part right.

And if one was done featuring blond and blue-eyed girls, there'd be hell to pay.

And in Iran women get arrested for not wearing this culturally diverse garment.

Iranian women call on Western tourists to violate hijab law to fight against oppression

“They complain Muslims don’t assimilate, then they complain about a photo and a billboard like this.

"It highlights the fact it is just plain racism. And it shows that Muslims are damned if they do and damned if they don’t."

Nailed it!

This is a perfect example of Muslims assimilating, and still the rightards chuck a tanty.

"She hopes to have the advertisement featured in newspapers, street posters and billboards around the country."   Grin

Well, that certainly backfired on the Islamophobes.  Too funny.

It's just an image taken in a photo shoot, no doubt the ladies were paid. It's giving a false sense of integration to make the luvies feel warm and fuzzy.

Perhaps FD can help with this one. FD believes in freedom of speech.

A conundrum for you if I may, FD. How do images of Muslims on billboards take away our freedom to live as decent white people?

And another: is it racist to threaten the tinted races for fragrantly flaunting images of themselves rather than just hiding and trying to blend in? Is it racist to call for the exile of such tinted races if we do so out of love and the preservation of our own species?

These are questions.

only a fvvckwit would complain about a photo on a billboard.

Is a photo of a neo nazi ok? That's just another culture.

So you lied John. there are no other billboards depicting other ethnic groups. You should have learnt by now that convenient fabrications will be identified as such, although you arent the sharpest tool in the shed.

“They complain Muslims don’t assimilate, then they complain about a photo and a billboard like this.

Nothing false about it at all.

Most Muslims assimilate.

Wearing that garment is a clear sign of non integration

Wearing that garment, whilst waving the Australian flag, is a clear sign of successful integration.

Leaving their regressive religion behind would be a clear sign of integration

The same could be said for Christians who have come here from another country.

False equivalence

Incorrect.

Christians who come here from another country, bring their regressive religion with them.

what garbage. your personal disbelief in Christianity is not enough reason to call ir 'regressive'. try making a semi-decent argument for a change.

It's nothing personal.

Most (if not all) religion is regressive.

A statement of opinion based on nothing more than... opinion.

Slavery was ended by religion. hardly regressive
Education was founded and expanded by religion. hardly regressive
social welfare was founded by the church.
Age of Consent was brought in because of the church.

They all sound rather progressive to me.

This has nothing to do with colour or race.

Oh, I know. The tinted races are not a race.

They're a culture, no?

not the pakis and indians... unless you call Rape Unlimited a culture.

This trend of young Muslim girls wearing the hijab is disturbing
Baher Ibrahim
Little girls are being taught to view themselves as sexual objects that must be covered up from an early age

Why make young girls wear the hijab?
Here’s an example, although it also refers to smacking kids who don’t pray so maybe don’t follow it too closely: When should a girl observe hijab?

According to this website, parents can pop their girls in veils before puberty: “if the fear that her not wearing hijab may cause young men to be tempted by her or her by them. Hence in this situation her parent or guardian has to make her wear hijab so as to prevent means that may lead to evil or immorality.”

No question, those ideas are offensive to many people, and were they to take hold nationwide, Australia would be a very different place.

Why stop at children covered up lest they inflame their 'pious community's' uncontrollable sexual urges??

Give these guys an Aussie flag each and stick 'em in the Target catalogue and on billboards to dampen any sexual urges in the' community'.

not sure if you've noticed longstupidone, but the only billboards that seem to make the news pages are the controversial ones ... why would anyone put up a photo, or write an article about a billboard they had no issue with?

the fact that there isn't a news article about a billboard with an asian on it, or a wog, does not mean it does not exist, you cretin.

That's what they said about all this stupid Muslim getup 30 years ago - and now they are everywhere.  All the efniks will think, 'hey, what' so special about those Muslim wogs? We are nowhere near as murderous and volatile so why can't we have our own cultural expression? It's our identity, innit?"

Identity politics leads to tribal fragmentation. Pre-pubescent girls being covered up by Muslims means an admission of otherwise uncontrollable pedophile urges.

Muslims are saying that they are sexually aroused by uncovered 10 year old so they want them covered. They are admitting to be uncontrollable pedophiles.

Go to Hell.

The people who planned that billboard knew damned well it would draw criticism and cause offence to a sizable portion of thinking Australians because these kids represent everything that Australia is not.

These naive little girls have been put into chains just as surely as those abos in those old photos Light posted up.

Hijabs are totally unAustralian for being a version of straitjacketing, ultra-conservatism, slavish conformity, female subservience, and ostentatious religiosity - everything the Australian character and national ethos hates and loathes.

It's only the revolting shitheads on the Left of the polity who approve of this cultural blasphemy.

Catch up, Herbie. Life is passing you by.

These girls are Australian.

And that's where you went wrong.

That word: "thinking".

No thinking Australian would be offended by that billboard, nor would they criticise it.

The only people it offends is irrational bigots whose lives are consumed by hatred & fear.

These girls are the children of immigrant Middle Eastern colonists who are now based in Australia because their hypocritical parents decided to worship Mammon as a priority rather than suffer the poverty of living in a majority-Muslim country.

Give me a party to vote for that would gently-but-firmly repatriate these hypocritical Muslim families back to the Middle East and I would vote for it early-and-often at every polling booth I could find.

Having absolutely nothing of any substance to say by way of counter-argument, you're going to derail the thread of this conversation with ad hominem irrelevancies.

I honestly don't think they are aware.

People like Herbie & Hammer are so consumed by irrational fear & hatred, that their brains have very little time (or capacity) to process anything else.

Sometimes I wonder how little Hammer manages to remember breathing.

They might be in western Sydney, but they certainly aren't "living" there.

How is it poorly thought out? THe girls in question are showing their patriotism by waving the Australian flag.

I would have thought that would make you happy. Sheez.

There is nothing about showing your hair that makes you Australian.

In fact, it is very sensible as an Australian to cover your head.

And you call yourself a feminist??? Roll Eyes

I certainly do. I support a woman's right to wear whatever she chooses without recrimination.

You don't remember breathing dumbo. It's a reflex action dictated by a part of the brain which is separate to individual command. Victoria Park has obviously made you spoilt and retarded.

I would have thought that would make you happy. Sheez.

Imagine, seeing those adorable little girls and just being infested by xenophobia.

Little girls usually want to look like mummy.

I have more issue with kindy kids wearing bikinis ... but that doesn't seem to confront society at large.

Mothra, this is Ruby Hamads view on young girls being forced to wear hijab.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you may have one or two things in common with Ruby.

A girl of this age is not only incapable of an informed decision, she is far too young to have connotations of "modesty" and "purity" imposed on her child's body.

Mothra,  more from the lovely Ruby
.
The modesty dress code is meant for sexually mature women, and girls who have reached puberty. If girls in kindergarten or grade four are being made to comply, then this flies in the face of any claim that observing hijab is a choice for individual women to make according to their own faith.

A girl of this age is not only incapable of an informed decision, she is far too young to have connotations of "modesty" and "purity" imposed on her child's body.

Can't you stick to your own thread?

This one is not about the opinions of a Muslim, vegan feminist on 5 yr olds wearing Hijabs.

This thread has covered hijab being about freedom of choice. You post endlessly in support of that choice.  Are you going to defend such young girls being forced to wear hijab at a Saudi influenced school?

Oh TBC, you're so transparent.

Read some of Ruby Hamads articles.  She's an intelligent and thoughtful journalist and being from the ABC my default position would be to accept as true any content in her articles until I'm shown anything contrary.

only an idiot would maintain that Muslim females wear the hijab from choice. Its a non arguement and as as we can see from this thread the old adage rings true, never argue with an idiot because they will wear you down with experience. You are arguing with very experienced posters  Gordy, you should have caught on by now.

I'm not. It's their family, community and religion who is stopping them from showing their hair and skin.

There is nothing about showing your hair that makes you Australian.

In fact, it is very sensible as an Australian to cover your head.

And you call yourself a feminist??? Roll Eyes

I certainly do. I support a woman's right to wear whatever she chooses without recrimination.
So these women/girls have a right to wear whatever they want??? Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin it's either their beliefs or the road Mothballs.  Roll Eyes

Most women in Australia who cover choose to cover.

You should listen to them more, instead of imposing your own opinion onto them.

Doing, while you do, the exact thing you are accusing the Muslim men of doing.

How about you men just bugger off out of our wardrobes?

What are your thoughts on kindy girls being made to wear a hijab, like in the other thread where your absence is conspicuous.

Little girls usually want to look like mummy.

I have more issue with kindy kids wearing bikinis ... but that doesn't seem to confront society at large.

What are your issues with bikinis?

Your turn, bikinis?

I agree with the gist of what she's saying but where I think she's off track is that hypersexulised advertising is used across all aspects of consumerism, noting unique to meat.

To focus on advertising, since the age of about 18 I've been sophisticated enough a consumer to not be swayed by dollybirds being used in ads, whether it be insurance or lamb chops, and I believe the dollybird component of an ad is nowhere as effective as the brand recognition aspect. Ad people are just looking for something clever to dish up to their clients.

I don't have a problem with grown omen wearing bikinis (although i think we should all go topless) but i hve very strong feelings about little girls wearing them .... and those pretend bras you can buy them in the shops.

Little girls have nothing to cover up.

There is no reason to cover anything up other than to say "look here, this is a site for future reference".

I personally think bikinis are more erotic than a woman simply swimming topless. I think bikinis on little girls are sick.

Why? Because i don't like sexualised swimming costumes for little girls?

I'd say that makes me a pretty great mum.

Why? Because i don't like sexualised swimming costumes for little girls?

I'd say that makes me a pretty great mum.

Making such young girls cover their heads for morality reasons in Islamic schools is also intersexualism them.

a crop top for little girls is not 'sexualising' and it is ironic since you actually claim you prefer them TOPLESS.

Its one thing to be complaining about lingerie for 8yos. it is another to be complaining about bikinis and crop tops.

I'll give Ruby the benefit of the doubt.

Ruby's take is that making such young girls wear hijab normalizes ultra conservatism. Love to hear your thoughts on that.

My default position for ABC journos is to give them the benefit of the doubt on facts, regardless if I agree with their opinion.

I'm really surprised you're not critical of an ultra conservative Saudi funded school.

Are you so desperate to win an argument that you have to put words in my mouth?

I've already said i don't think any girl should be forced to wear the hijab, irrespective of age.

As for the school being funded by the Saudis, well, that;s still in question, isn't it.

Surely you must have issues with the inequity of dress code between boys and girls at that school? It's ok to disagree with the ultra conservatives, Mothra. You won't be labeled an Islamophobe.

As Ruby said, young girls are being forced to wear a hijab to normalise what was once considered an ultra conservative practice.

We'll put you down as a supporter of the ultra conservatives.

Good on you.

Grow up, Gordy.

Sorry you don't get off that easy. Ruby is spot on about what was once considered ultra conservative now being normalised, and that billboard is a sign of creeping conservatism within Islam, and you're supporting it.

Oh bollocks.

Surely you must have issues with the inequity of dress code between boys and girls at that school? It's ok to disagree with the ultra conservatives, Mothra. You won't be labeled an Islamophobe.

Grow up, Gordy.

Jesus Christ, what's in the water in Sydney today?

Hammer and Gordy have lost the plot.

How can two happy little girls get two grown men people so upset?

No Hamer. Now sit down and focus. Focus really hard.

You doing it? Ok.

I said no-one should be forced to wear head coverings in the first statement.

The word you need to focus on is forced.

In the second statement i said that showing your hair doesn't make you an Austrailan.

And it doesn't.

Why are people funding billboards for what Muslims regards as properly "covered cat's meat"??

Why do Muslims think that 6-7 year old girls's hair must be covered? The Muslims blokes are swaggering in tshirts and shorts and all the females are covered from head to toe. Why are Australians supporting this blatant sexism? Is it now 'tolerant' to tolerate such sexism and discrimination?

It's just an image taken in a photo shoot, no doubt the ladies were paid. It's giving a false sense of integration to make the luvies feel warm and fuzzy.

Nothing false about it at all.

Most Muslims assimilate.

Wearing that garment is a clear sign of non integration

Wearing that garment, whilst waving the Australian flag, is a clear sign of successful integration.

it has everything to do with the Quoran & the Hadiths
about women maintaining modesty.

In other words covering up for Muslim men who can't control themselves.

Then they cut off functional parts of young womens genitals so as to prevent them from enjoying sexual pleasure or being promiscuous.

No nothing to do with religion. Roll Eyes

Nothing false about it at all.

Most Muslims assimilate.

Wearing that garment is a clear sign of non integration

Wearing that garment, whilst waving the Australian flag, is a clear sign of successful integration.

Leaving their regressive religion behind would be a clear sign of integration

It's not a religious garment.

- yes it is
