what a pity this didnt happen. of course it was a prediction and not a policy. There was never a policy to breed out Aboriginals.

Not really - just to exercise the ages-old breeding imperative..... any port in a storm....

I recall a Bluey and Curly joke in one of my father's WW II books - the two Diggers are watching a New Guinea native woman walk past, and one says to the other - "I reckon she's getting more White by the minute!"

Funny thing - my uncle who was a copper etc was called 'The Black Feller' - not sure what that all means but my cousins on his side are pretty brown... there is some suggestion of hanky-panky in the family tree...

What effect does 200 years of being told you are worthless has on a people.

Raven's adopted father copped it all the time, from being told by a teacher that he was a grub to abuse he suffered in the compound.

One day he found 2 Shillings and took some friends to the cinema, they had a good time and had enough money to by sandwiches and drinks at intermission.

Next day while waiting for the semi trailer to take them to school (the white kids caught a bus while they had to sit in a modified semi trailer with wood bolted to the floor to act as seats) he saw his friends. They had handkerchiefs wrapped round their heads and they would not look at him.

He tracked them down at lunch and asked what was going on, one friend took the handkerchief off. Their heads had been shaved. One boy had a bit of blood on the front of his shirt. When Raven's father lifted the shirt he saw the wounds from a horse whip.

The movie had run late and the boys were caught coming back to Retta Dixon home. Raven's father felt very angry and guilty because he was the one that took them.

Later that night the missionary's house mysteriously burnt to the ground.

His only regret, he once said to Raven, was that the missionary was not in the house at the time. It could have save those boys a lot of abuse.

He also said that was the last time he would ever be less then anyone else.

He was 8 years old when they took him from his parents. Told that they no longer loved him, flogged mercilessly when speaking his own language and was only educated till he was 14 before being kicked out and told to find employment.

The effect that must have on the human psyche.

The sad fact is that the overwhelming majority of Australians have no idea what these people when through and confronted by it they use Special Pleading.

No.

Most anthropologists agree that there were just over a million aboriginal people in Australia pre 1778.

Within 60 years it's thought they were reduced to a tenth of that.

Currently there are just over 670,000 aboriginal people. That includes Torres Strait and people considered of aboriginal decent.

Henry won at Agincourt solely on the terrain. It's put down to the English longbow men but they were not that effective against an armoured knight and were hired only because they cost less than other kinds of soldiers. The sodden ground was the downfall of the heavy cavalry, once a few charges over the ground turned it to a mire it was over for the horses and any knight in armour was a pig looking for a sticking once he was off his horse face down in the mud.

Hey.
There is a lot of technology there.
Didn't you read the thread where without the boomerang we would not have international flights.
Or without sticks leaning against a tree we would not have multi storied buildings.

All in just 70,000 years.
My daughter must have been a genius, she found that blowing through a hollow tube made a noise when she was 2.

I'm so happy.

many blessings

your daughter merely copied the native people ..

a great copy cat of superior wisdom to try and prve some form of acceptability or impossibly, superiority

this is surprising considering your projected intellect

so rub your nipples and rejoice !

Thanks for sharing, Raven. Of course we were blessed enough to have Corran on our board at DR before he passed.

I have now heard many tales spoken by aboriginal people just like the one you have written above about Corran. This has softened my stance considerably.
