What's your experience of life, Marla? I'm not being nosey; I'm just curious you seem to be so pissed off at the system and the world.
I was once too. I fantasised about bombing a department store. I joined the Democratic Socialist Party and used to sell Green Left Weekly on the streets of Melbourne. I wore Blundstone boots, smoked rollies, loved grunge music, and did every drug I could lay my hands on. I was angry and pissed off at everything and everyone and I didn't care.
When I first found a debate board it was full of American Republicans. Their views offended me deeply, I guess like Herbert's do you. But baby that was years ago; I've left it all behind.
The world won't change for you Marla. If you want it to be better, it's up to you to make it better. Get into a helping career or something. Smoking weed and being perpetually pissed off at the world won't help the world, and nor will it help you.
You've got one crack at life. Don't waste it.
Cheers,
Nicole
quite good advice there Nicole.
the angry, pissed off vibe is very common in teenagers and some people never grow out of it.
ive seen it in lower socioeconomic groups with young guys trashing cars
ive seen it in very upper socioeconomic groups with entitled girls having hissy fits because daddy embarrassed them in front of their friends by put a bow on the BMW they got for their 18th birthday .
The best book by far to read on this is "A New Earth " by ekhardt tolle.
Tolle talks about pain bodies and how we all have them.
individuals, racial groups, nations...everyone.
He talks about how the pain body is how people can gain a sense of self, how you can feel "you are you". this is important because the ego wants you to be able to identify this feeling.
I am aquascoot and i am a seperate entity
I am nicole and i am a seperate entity.
If you are lucky and things go well for you, you can get this sense of identity from positive experiences.
If you are not lucky (and most people arent), then your ego is just as happy to draw identity from pain.
And once you do this, the pain body will need to be fed (to experience pain ) to maintain this crucial identity.
You see this very much in relationships where people will actively hurt their partner. You see it in people who once loved each other, but break up and go into feeding off hate...its universal.
people will try to numb down this pain with endless "stimulations"....comfort eating, alcohol, benzos, drugs, some of the religious cults, sex, tv....but this is all band aid therapy.
Until you are willing to confront your own ego and get real with yourself , you are going nowhere.
Three of the best strategies are
1 meditation (which empties the mind of ego).
2 flow state activities which similarly empty the mind (going for a jog on the beach with your dog)
3 contribution, which puts the focus on others.
Its hard to do any of these without emotional mastery (there are many good books on this).
And these activities give you emotional mastery.
So like everything in life, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
If you do these things, you will find that problems will put you into growth and opportunity and each of these things make you get better by .000001 %.
If you dont do these things, then problems will put you into pain and victimhood and each little drink, joint, chocalate bar, negative interaction will make you get .000001 % worse.
You either climb the narrow road to success or you slip down the muddy highway to failure.
Pot will make you more likely to slip.
It hard enough to climb, dont be adding 10 kg weights to your back pack
