Successive Australian governments have show nothing by craven cowardice on this issue, much like they did for East Timor.

All Australians should be ashamed of our total lack of empathy and action.

All of us have stood by and said nothing while our governments has stood by and done nothing.

God forbid we should upset our muslim neighbours to the north while they slaughter the people of West Paupa and previously East Timor.

Our cowardice is well know to indonesia.  Angry Angry

First i agree with Gnads, then Big Ol... astounding.

Just goes to show common ground can be found.

East Timor was a piece of cake and we still dithered on it for decades.
Taking a stance against Indonesia on WP would cause a full scale war.

Indonesia's military provide nothing more than a target rich environment.

They are used to kill women and children in occupied lands.

No point having a big shiny Air-force if all you are going to do with is friggen air shows and acrobatic displays.

Since indonesia has invaded both East Timor and West Papua we have had the military capability to eject them, just not the political will due to cowardice.

You've got to remember, we are complicit in the genocide of the West Papuans.

Our hands are covered in blood,

Not before time - somebody already stole the phrase I was going to throw in about Australian governments - craven cowardice.

When those little bastards shot the journos in Balibo etc, one short sharp blow would have knocked them back on their heels and saved decades of agony for millions....

Bunch of piss-poor amateurs with the spine of a jellyfish... the only reason they finally went into East Timor was because of the North Shelf Gas - bunch of gutless and amoral self-serving cowards.

... and that's me being nice....

The blowback would be huge. They'd launch 100 reffo boats a day.
Indonesia would go full Jihad against us.

Because over 500,000 have been killed?

Because they resisted immigration and multiculturalism?

I can't believe you're posting this crap on the subject of West Papua & the genocide of their people by Indonesian dogs.

When it comes to politicians & political parties in Australia

there is one thing both Labor & the Libs have in common

decades of ignoring, failing, denying that this problem exists

I am usually a Labor voter & detest the anti worker policies of the LNP

but I can assure you I am well aware of one of Labors greatest statesmen & former Prime Minister Gough Whitlams hand way back in the 60's of handing over West Papua to Indonesian control.

It was the biggest blight on his career.

And to me makes a mockery of his stance for Aboriginal Land Rights & the BS pictorial of him & Vincent Lingiari at Wave Hill Station.

Just a load of media tart bullshit.

Well said.

It seems the Indonesians have been conducting something akin to Ethnic Cleansing in West Papua, and it's strange indeed that even a Far Left organisation like the UN is totally unconcerned about it and doesn't believe the Indonesians are at fault for any reason. (Gleaned from a source other than the above link).

When we say 'Indonesians', what we really mean is the Javanese. Before the Dutch took over these islands they were a large bunch of diverse cultures and religions.  However after Dutch settlement they chose the Javanese to be their lapdogs and exported them to the other islands to act as overseers, much the same as the British did with Indians throughout the empire.

Naturally, the Javanese turned on their masters and were enthusiastic embracers of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere imposed by the Japanese in 1942. This makes them unique among the people of SE Asia.

After the war the Javanese continued to control their empire inherited from the Dutch and were not about to allow any dissent, which brings us to the West Papua colonial land grab.

The West Papuans are primitive natives with zero ability to self govern. This thread is all about sour grapes because the Indos took them over instead of us. Get over it.

Rubbish

We are complicit with the Indos in development of the processes to strip the country of it's natural resources.

It matters not if they are a primitive people - PNG is self governing

It is their country not the indonesians.

And it does not excuse 56 years of genocide by these trigger happy, small man syndrome bastards.

That we have trained their military & sold them military hardware and supplied them multi millions of dollars in aid
compounds our complicity in this genocide.
