Mr Herbert blamed his 'tough job' for his error in judgment.
But he again came under fire following reports he had not declared his Trentham property on the parliamentary register of interests.
Late on Thursday night, Mr Herbert confirmed he had updated his register of interests to include the house in Trentham.
'I own a block of land and a house in Trentham, which is my principal place of residence,' he said in a statement to AAP.
'Living in my electorate is important to me.'
On the most recent register of interest, tabled two weeks ago, Mr Herbert declared a block of land in Trentham, but not a house.
He also declared an investment property in East Melbourne, 50 per cent ownership of a house in Parkdale and 69 acres (27.9 hectares) in Yinnar South.
