PS: ATO cannot unreasonably withhold your whole tax refund if only part of it is in dispute.

Also; too many foolish taxpayers pay more tax than they should using ATO money retention as forced saving. However, ATO does not like letting that money slip through their fingers and will hold it as long as they can.

The ATO does not like to return taxpayer money and will use every trick it can to avoid that.

Do not pay any more tax than the absolute minimum you have to and pay less if possible. If you owe ATO money it makes you search harder for deductions.

Now it's a waiting game.

ATO won't communicate by email because it leaves a trail of evidence.

You won't know if its sorted out until you get the letter. The ATO person you dealt with is low level and the outcome depends on his/her boss and whether the ATO person you dealt with is meeting its quota for tax recovery in excess of taxpayer claims.
