Two of them are scrubbers I got from the hellhole in the countryside - pale brown, but the one that escaped from the neighbours before they sold up and left, is a real aristocrat - a very classy lady with beautiful markings.

It could be a Rhode Island Red, but don't quote me.

Oddly enough the two abused hens will eat out of my hand now, and I can easily pick them up, but the backyard chook is still nervous of me.

One thing you learn very quickly is that chickens are heartlessly brutal towards one another. Forget "dog-eat-dog" -- chickens are twice as vicious in maintaining their status in the flock.
