Iraq: Reports of over 130 civilians buried under rubble after US airstrike in Mosul *GRAPHIC*
Part of channel(s): Iraq (current event)

Footage from Friday shows some of the remains and charred bodies of civilians following an alleged US-led coalition airstrike in west Mosul in the last week, which according to reports, left around 137 people buried beneath the rubble of a residential building.

Footage shows disturbing images of some of the victims, including children and babies burnt beyond recognition as workers sift through the rubble to search for any remaining survivors and clear the debris. Some reports have put the death toll from the airstrike at around 230.

A US Central Command spokesperson has admitted that the US-led coalition carried out several airstrikes targetting IS forces in the region, but there has been no comment on the specific death toll so far.

The military operation against the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Mosul began on October 17 last year. IS captured the city in 2014 and the offensive is now fronted by the US-led anti-IS coalition and the Iraqi army, who have been carrying out airstrikes in the city. Thousands of Mosul residents have been forced to flee the fighting as the campaign escalates.

Aleppo boy / Mosul girl: Have you seen this image before?

Published on Mar 24, 2017

RT looked at recent coverage on CNN, the BBC and Al-Jazeera. None of those channels mentioned the impact of the anti-terror operation on civilians in Mosul. While only the BBC had the Mosul story as a headline - reporting on displacement and the de-mining of liberated areas. This is quite a contradiction to the mainstream media's coverage of Aleppo. RT's Caleb Maupin asked New Yorkers if they recognized the tragic symbols of the two cities' conflicts.

Looks like Trump's kept one of his campaign promises after all.

He's gotten rid of the Rules of Engagement.

Yes, but in reality, there are no rules of engagements. Its like the old declaration of war, neither exists in practice. When a fanatic in civilian clothes is given the same rights as a man who stands up in the uniform of their country, such rules have no moral standing.

I have used "their" in the place of "his or her," which is unwieldy, and considering the shite being included in the Oxford dictionary, its time.
