Who are the friends and allies of Turkey? USA are losing the influence

Geopolitics has always defined the relations between the neighbors on the political map of the world. Wars for resources and territory have formed the modern world. Relations between the neighboring states played a leading role in all geopolitical processes. The very alliances with neighboring countries guaranteed national security for centuries. In the era of globalization, when national boundaries are erased and the distance doesn’t play a big role, many people believe that the role of the neighborhood has significantly declined, but that is not so.
History shows that countries fight more against neighbors on the political map, because the existence of a common living space leads to an increase in interactions. Although the friendship with neighbors is also the most strong, the reason is to defend common interests, establishing strong cultural and human contacts.
The history of the relations between the geopolitical neighbors such as Russia and Turkey, started more than five centuries ago. Altogether, from 1676 to 1918, Russia and Turkey were fighting 11 times for land and resources in Caucasus, Ukraine and Crimea. In addition, together they conducted trade for more than five centuries.
Both countries are ex-empires with its own identity and spheres of influence. Both are in a state of existential choice between the West and the search for its own way. Before the end of the Cold War, Turkey was an outpost of the West in the fight against the Soviet Union and had a strong desire to follow western development path. After the fall of the "iron curtain" the Russian-Turkish relations began to restore during the following 25 years. Despite Turkey was a NATO country, Russia considered it to be the closest and the most reliable partner, opened for dialogue and searching for «interactions points».
The incident with the shot down Russian bomber Su-24M on the border with Syria in November 2015, has led difficult consequences for both countries. That time Turkey followed a position of pro-Western forces and refused to admit guilt and apologize. However, it was quite clear that the situation won’t last long, because the mutual interests were more significant than the desire to be at enmity. In summer 2016 Turkey's apologies become a reason to restore the relations and even to move to the new level.
The United States, imagined themselves the hegemon, who has the right to decide for others and to impose its will, conduct a clumsy foreign policy, being indifferent to other countries’ interests. Turkey faced it when in a multi-conflict around Syria and in the fight against the Islamic State the United States placed a bet on the Kurds and this fact went against Turkey’s national interests. Thus, the United States have shown its true attitude to the "friend and ally" - Turkey. In recent years, the US have been obviously unhappy with independent policy of the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and couldn’t lose the opportunity to "show him his place."
In public, this confrontation erupted in the night from 15 to 16 July 2016, when the coup in Turkey failed. The coup was organized by Turkish army general officers, who earlier studied in the American Academy, where CIA recruited actively, according to many experts. There was even a plan to attempt on Erdogan. But he survived and his regime, being supported by the Turkish people, survived too. Experts say, that the US refusal to give suspected in plot Fethullah Gülen to Turkey, was a reason for Turkey to establish cooperation with Russia.
However, not only Turkey embodies the tendency to create a new "center of power", but also other countries in the region, tired of the US opened voluntarism, think about the need to create "axis Moscow-Baku-Teheran" able to destabilize the US unilateralism in the Middle East.
August 8, 2016 a historic summit of the three littoral states of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran, which embody just the same "axis" took place. Together states intend to fight terrorism, develop the transport corridor "North-South", it is also planned to connect the electric grids of the three countries, to fix transport links. In short, cooperation is meant to be beneficial and equal.
It is important to highlight the role of Azerbaijan in this process, because Baku has played a huge role in the reconciliation of Russia and Turkey. Historically, Azerbaijan is closely connected with both the northern neighbor and the southern one.
Russia and Turkey need each other geopolitically. In the name of Turkey Russia will get a foothold in the Middle East, outlet for energy and a huge tourism and food market, as well as a reliable partner in different industries. In the name of Russia Turkey will receive not only the traditional access to almost unlimited energy resources, but also access to a very comfortable Eurasian Economic Community market with its strong potential. In addition, an ally, a neighbor on the geopolitical map is much more preferable than the ally beyond the sea is.
