Same Sex Marriage
Sep 14th, 2016 at 12:42am

I've read a lot of comments on Oz Pol about this general issue. Iam aware there are other topics on this, but they seem to be awfully driven by narrow views.

I want to say I have no problem with the idea, or the reality. It doesn't OFFEND or UPSET me. The world as we know it, will not end.

I cannot see what is wrong with this.

I DO wonder at the viciousness and fear shown in comments by some posters on Oz Pol, opposing the idea.
Both the reality of same-sex marriage,  AND the Plebiscite.

I understand that the majority of Australians feel the same as I do. What IS the problem?

I see no good reason to waste about $ 200 million on a
non-binding plebiscite, with the tentative date of 11 Feb 2017, as announced today ,  with public funding for YES and NO campaigns to the tune of $7 000 000 plus each for arguing the case in the public arena.

WHY?.
This seems such a retrograde and expensive piece of political waste, when the money could be much better applied elsewhere.
WHO wants this plebiscite.?  and WHY.?.
Cannot our government do as they are elected to, and act in the name of the majority of voters.?

The first idea that I had about this issue was to think about voting "no" when the polling day comes around. You know, be that guy that said "no" to gay marriage. Just to have people wonder who voted "no" for something that does not them.

Or maybe other people will have the same idea, and vote "no" as well, making your surreptitious plans redundant. I guess I just want to vote "no", just to get a reaction out of the 1% who can't get married.

Not having another decadent Marxist philosophy  thrust upon the majority without it's  consent was the deciding factor in me voting AGAINST Labor. The issue is  now about  a party honouring a pre-election promise. BTW, who are you to stand in  judgment of millions  of people just because their views differ to yours?

I was not accusing you of having such plans. I was talking about how my decision to vote on gay marriage would be based on how much I piss people off, anonymously.

Not only do I believe two people of the same sex should have all the government benefits of a marriage but also believe all pets should be claimed as dependents to reduce taxable income!

I personally have and take no isse with homosexual relationships.
But there are many many people out there who do.
Religious people who see this as an abomination would far outnumber the actual homosexual community.
Why shoul one group lord it over another just because they are more vocal, or more "in your face" than another group.
Its bullying in action.

Instead, why not have a small compromise?
Call it something other than marrage, with all the legal and social responsibilities and benifits.

Besides, it two people truly love each other, it should not matter what you call it.

This is about the superiority of the hard right religionists, by keeping queer people as their version of evil sinners.
Without sinners, they can not see see themselves as superior.

This is not just about issues like gay marriage, this is about issues like voluntary euthanasia.

This is about keeping our system secular.

Support Secular Australia. Support Marriage Equality

I vote yes.

I suspect a lot of the no vote, apart from a few true bigots and religo nuts will be from people that are pissed off by the aggressive obnoxiousness of a minority of the Gay movement.

That's not true for me. The situation as I see it is the progressives will push for change for change sake when they find themselves all out of cause celebres. I'm all for change; I just don't see how steering our society/young people further down the path of decadence and permissiveness will make Australia a better country in the future. Can you?

Hammers just worried that if gay marriage is legalised he'll have no more excuses the next time his boyfriend proposes

I voted no because of what I have heard Marxists openly admit about 'gay marriage': this is not about granting 'equal rights' (adults already have the right to marry), but about destroying the insitution of marriage. I think a video was even released during the Irish referendum which captured one of them admitting this publicly. Why would I want to see the central tenet of family life destroyed?
