Never crossed my mind but given you mentioned it, I did a Google and Wilder's real name is Jerome Silberman and was Jewish.

Speaking of 'gay' - apparently it was - and maybe still is - a Hollywood norm that child actors should accept that paedophiles within the industry will be 'calling upon them' from time to time as routine practice and nothing to see here, folks.

As for the gays, apparently Cary Grant and Randolph Scott lived with each other for 15 years. Randolph did a lot of riding on-screen as well .... Roll Eyes

It was window-dressing ordered by the Hollywood bureaucrats to keep their star actors at the peak of their popularity with the paying audiences. Any scandal of the anal intercourse and fellatio kind would have impact negatively on book office takings.

One example was James Dean - a one-man riot as a homosexual who's Dirty Little Secret was carefully hidden by the Hollywood hierarchy.

Same with John Travolta - a notorious homosexual who had to pretend he was straight.

Pleased to see someone else at least liked The Frisco Kid, not many people seem to even have heard of it. It was probably one of "Hammyson" Ford's better efforts too.

Gene gave me a few belly laughs in the movies, I liked his sarcastic/ironic delivery style and maybe being Jewish gave him an edge on that. It is their kind of humour it seems.

His religion, sexual preferences, political leanings, the medical state of his personal equipment, or even his dietary habits were of no entertainment value whatever to me.
His humour though was.

I've missed that. We need more Wilders, and Brooks's and Williams. The world is losing it's sense of humour.

I loved his version of Wonka... why they ever let Johnny Depp loose with it I will never know...he was totally unbelievable.. where as Gene made me believe in him...I loved it.... and yes first and foremost he was a comedian .. I hope they never let Johnny loose on any of his old movie remakes I wish they would leave well alone..
