EBays latest dirty trick
Aug 26th, 2016 at 1:42pm

although Ebay offers a money back guarantee on items which did not arrive or are defective they now have a little trick to void this guarantee. It appears they  are now categorising certain  sales as "guest sales" with no chance of refund of purchase. FYI

Another dirty trick I discovered after selling an $850 item on Ebay,

I discovered that payments by Paypal  are held and not credited to your account for three weeks after the sale went through.

Nice way  for Paypal to make money on the short term money market.

Dual list on Gumtree.  The buyers always find it there

I certainly will be buying nothing through Ebay any more. Too many fraudsters and general shonksters which Ebay protects and too many little tricks from Ebay to get out of their consumer obligations.

You didn't read the fine print.

I had a similar dispute with AliBaba and I got my money back plus bank transaction costs and foreign exchange margins. In fact I got back a little bit more than my costs. I insisted that the refund include bank transaction costs and foreign exchange.

AliBaba was very helpful in first suspending the Merchant and then compelling the refund.

From about 150 purchases on Ebay I only got ripped off twice
on small purchases. (by the way- Paypal never paid up in either case - their guarantee is worth zero )
That's not bad considering all the money I saved or
considering that - what I wanted  - was not available anywhere else.

Only last week I fixed up a weed eater/ whipper snipper which was worth
$250 for only $24 of parts.   Smiley

Ah - so that's why the ex couldn't log into her account - but she could log in as a guest.

So the latest I have heard so far, I think is true....

Ebay used to own Paypal, but now Paypal is separate from Ebay.

Ebay has bought Gumtree.

Wait until they start adding the recently passed illegal GST
on goods purchased by Australians in Australia from overseas
countries...

Ebay also have their GSP ~ Global Shipping Program.
Sellers send their item to a location in their own country and Ebay take over international postage, at a marked up rate.

Glass, ceramics, and pottery is banned under this scheme and some of it gets confiscated and destroyed.

GSP applies to sellers in North America and Europe currently.

So when you're buying from overseas, be aware you are likely being gouged by Ebay on postage.

Ebay is a case of buyer beware.
I have bought lots of things on eBay without any problems.
- Find sellers you can trust.
- read the listings and look at the photos carefully
- check the sellers feedback scores for the type of items that you are buying.
- If the deal seems too good to be true then it probably is.
