What sort of martial art do you do...?

I tried a number of different arts, including jujutsu, karate and boxing.

The main one that I stuck with was karate, I got to 1st dan but I haven't trained at a club for about 10 years now.

Mainly just walk to keep fit every day.

That's not fair Bobby, these guys are elite athletes who's training the average man who takes up martial arts or self defence can never ever match.

Of course Tyson would kill me within 5 seconds.

When you take up self defence or martial arts it's not in the hope that you can defeat elite athletes at the top of their game.

Hopefully you can escape a life threating encounter with your life.

Like I said its not fair to think the average Joe who does a bit of training two or three times a week for an hour at a time can EVER match these elite athletes.

When Tyson was at his peak mentally and physically I don't think anything on two legs could have stopped him.

Those guy above in those videos and below are all competitors in karate who pit their skills against each other, its an amateur competition because they train and compete in their own time for the love it, there is no money involved, you get a plastic trophy at the end along with some bruises and broken bones if unlucky.

Its based on a point system, who ever scores the first truly lethal blow wins and for the final who ever scores the first three lethal blows wins.

Sometimes its bare knuckled sometimes they wear those white pads with a 1/2" pad that is designed to protect the knuckles more than the person being it and cuts to the skin.

Its suppose to be non contact but blows to the body are full contact and to the face if excessive force is used with no control can lead to disqualification.

I've had my ribs broken from one punch.

Every care is taken and there is always a busy St Johns team there for the cuts and bruises.

It's not easy........

John you must be thinking about Kyokushin karate.

Shotokan is in and out, go in do damage then get out.

Kyokushin they just stand there till someone goes down.

They have no punches to the face but can kick the head of your shoulders if they can.

The human body is resilient isn't it.

Same reason as footballers don't kill each other.

Most of the kicks are taken while standing, the higher the kick travels the weaker it is.

Its not as though they are stamping on each others heads.

Full contact karate and Judo mixed
