How 'long' out of Urangan (not distance ~ time) did you have to go to get to the whales?

around an hour I guess...

we worked further out from there finding different pods and found the one with the baby whale which was still very light in colour.. whitish on the bottom.. they go dark quick so it was a real young baby.. under a week old..

the mother stayed between it and the male that was hanging around... then another small pod ran into these three and the Mother ended up with Two Male Escorts...

the real fun will start when the rest of the whales get there, especially the BIG males.. they don't come in until September/October...

it took us 1 1/2 to get back into base...

we want to come back at another time when  there are hundreds of whales in the bay...

in fact.. I wanted to shift up here from Victoria but the mrs wont let me  Cry

Dunno if you are still there, but Migaloo is due tomorrow the smoke signals say.

Hervey Bay is a financial ruination for blokes like you.  Locals who invested there are trying to get out at almost any cost.  You are better looking in other SE Qld spots than there.  So, to that extent, I agree with Mrs Mechanic.  Mind you, you'll do well on the honey up here.

We arrived at the gold coast yesterday. . So long gone from hervey. .. we did see a minke whale but it did a runner pretty quickly. ..

I wouldn't invest at Hervey. .. but work and live in the area...mind you I'd have to spend some time there in summer to see yhe other season first... and more around the entire area...

Going shopping today and then to the  Great Outback Spectacular tonight  Smiley

there were a number of Muslims there.. but what gets me is that the women are all dressed up in muslim attire... but the men are dressed as westerners... boots, jeans and a hoody..  Shocked

apart from the Grand Mufti..

we got home on Friday afternoon.. we had a great trip overall although I hurt my back on the morning on our second last day.. so two days driving with a stuffed lower back..  Sad

it was great driving out on the open roads again... we haven't done a trip like that in two years... Australia is Great..  Smiley

lots of interesting things to see and do...

I've been looking up about Living in Hervey Bay since I've been home...  Grin

gets a bit humid over the summer... can get sand flies and midgies during that period in certain areas..
then I start reading about Fraser Coast Rates..  Shocked

$3000 for an average home...  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

struth... that council has gone mad with rises of over 200% on some things since 07/08 ... monumental stupid decisions... giving themselves massive pay rises and were also going to build a new multimillion dollar luxury council offices.... etc etc...

they have driven out investment with Hundreds of people trying to sell up to escape but are stuck with massive council rates until they can sell and get out...

anyways... back to work tomorrow...  Sad
