Most Australian made ads on TV are naf, especially when the advertisers has such an ego that they have to include themselves or family members in the ad instead of a professional actor. Poorly made, loud, and spout utter rubbish.

This is a much better one. Same 70s hair but otherwise a much better ad.

And then there are the ones that are too cheap to shoot in Australia, so they use American ads with Australian voice over. Almost as slimy as the car ads where you can't see the driver on the left-hand side through the tint.

Ridiculous car ads like the one with the Pink Horse, or the one where the engine turns into a leopard. And any ads that use fuzz-tone guitar noise.

You really miss the point of the commercials, when the adverts are more about distracting the audience with decent cgi, rather than letting the audience know that it's about advertising vehicles.

I did find it amusing when the brother decides he wants a new dinosaur, after he saw what his sister was getting. Perhaps he could feed it on those horses they were previously chasing.

Missed the point; that's a good thing, right?

I should have said "People really miss the point" in my initial reply. I think advertisements have more of an entertainment factor than a sales factor, these days. Trying to imprint their product on the mind, so that we can subconsciously remember a couple years down the track when we are in the market to buy a new car.

I think it's the Scholl gel active advertisements that get me riled everytime. The voice over for the guy sounds like he doubles as a voice actor to narrate a dog's thoughts on some low budget children's movie.

Voice over guy: "On the go... Ma feet ache"
(Someone off camera): "Fetch!"
Voice over guy: "Ahroo-roo-roo-roo-roo. Woof-woof" [runs off]
Voice over girl: "Comfortable, like on a gel cloud".

That kind of irritation. It's obviously an overdub of the actors, because they never let you see the person speak for more than a second before they can cut away.

This isn't TV but who remembers things like this:

"Chesterfield is best for you. First cigarette with premium quality in both regular and king size.
Years ahead of them all. Chesterfield is years ahead of them all.
The quality contrast between Chesterfield and other leading brands is a revealing story. Recent chemical analyses give an index of quality for the country's six leading brands. The index of good quality table which is a ratio of high sugar to low nicotine shows Chesterfield quality highest. 15% higher than the next leading brand. 31% higher than the average of the 5 other leading brands.
Don't you want to try a cigarette with quality like this"

PS they never mentioned they'd kill you.

Filter, Flavour, Flip-top box! I'll bet there are very few people on this forum who know why many cigarettes have cream coloured tips.

And now I can't get "Happiness is..." out of my head.

Hint: for those not old enough to remember, it was used as the theme for television advertisements for Kent cigarettes.

Actually, one that I both like but also find a bit creepy is that one about Ancestry.com (?).
Where a ghost of the past appears and says "come find me".
I feel a chill down my spine a bit, but It's an effective ad I think.

I rarely watch TV live so what am I doing here.
Mostly I record things and then I flick through the ads at x16. If I do watch something live I use mute during the ads.
I guess I'm not Robinson Crusoe on that so . . .what are the ad people doing there.

But if I remember one that really annoys me I'll come back.

So it's not just me then? I record absolutely everything for another day, when I'll be doing the x16 zip-through of the 3min 45sec ads.
