I get suspicious if the police ask for my name and phone number if I am filing a complaint

What are you suspicious of?

What do you think might happen?

What now begs the question is why do they use this recorded message  and then dont speak to you if the call back number is dodgy, unless they are waiting to hear you speak and in my case I didnt?

Dunno?

Because getting a computer to talk to you is even cheaper than an Indian call centre.

I realise that!

You didnt answer my question

After the message which contained a dodgy Sydney number to call (that doesnt answer) it just hung up . Was it hoping to detect a computer or my voice or something and then put the dodgy Indian on to speak to me...Weird!

A lot of people get caught out by this scam (safe link).

I strongly suggest reporting it to Scam Watch.

Here's an even worse one http://tinylink.net/iI65H (safe link)

That happens to me a bit too Red- rings and no one answers- I think they are just computers ringing random numbers to detect which numbers actually answer- collecting data for future reference .
