I took an American friend to Wilcannia. I had never been there before. At the advice of the Broken Hill locals, we went the day before dole day.

A very scary place.

burke is hilarious..

most of the shops in town have shutters on the windows to keep the abbos out when closed..

at the bottle shop all of the booze is behind a wire cage with only a square hole cut out to pass the drinks out to customers after paying..

check out this street view of burkes shopping centre...

another cracker of a crap hole ..

I remember this place as I stopped for fuel and breakfast and after breakfast I had to go to the toilet..

well, the smell in there was something else...  Shocked

then while I was sitting on the can suffocating an abbo starts yelling in the door to his mate (stinky man in other cubical) about how big a cocoa cola he wanted.. a lot of them stink to high heaven in the outback..

but they were driving a brand new Toyota Hilux...  Shocked

Very pretty place by day- by night it varies- going back a few years ago it was very rough- I keep to myself here and have never had a moment's trouble with anyone- only one guy who was a meth user, he trespassed into my house through my back door, buck naked with no good on his mind- lucky my 6ft 2 son was home and told him to pith off-  he is now in jail and no he wasn't a black man.

I am an ex primary producer and I have been to Wilcannia in the course of my work and it is a scary place and a complete dump. Wilcannia has my vote.

I went on a fishing trip to Ceduna, best fishing I have ever done, bagged out every day, I actually thought it was a beautiful little place but we avoided the foreshore where the tribes hung out, at the end of the day though they are mostly harmless anyway, just on a daily mission to get totally smashed and once they achieve that state you could take on ten of them at a time   Grin
