Not exactly rednecks, but australians seem to have a romantic view of texas cowboys, that is very different to their impression of the australian equivalent.

There was some dickhead with a hat, a stupid moustache and a dumb texas accent they really tried to pump up on a reality cooking show a few months back.  I just can't imagine them trying to make a personality out of an aussie like that.

The American does not differ all that much from the Australian variety. They both denigrate natives as nothing more than "Boongs", or whatever the local slang happens to be.

Rednecks and bogans are unsophisticated and undereducated and the luvvies will denigrate them all day long.

But unsophisticated and undereducated with a deep tan?  Luvvies will fawn all over them and not hear a bad word said.

I can't figure it out, I don't reckon luvvies could if they ever bothered to think about the contradictions they happily embrace.

Rednecks never have ideas.

Differences are...well, in America they have bigger trailer parks AND guns.

There is a difference between a bogan and a redneck. Most rednecks come from country areas ... most bogans are city folk.

The equivalent to an American redneck in Australia is country town people and station folk ... most of whom do not behave like rednecks.

Most 'luvies' support all people.

I'm what you would call a 'luvvie' (whatever that really means) and i think bogans are awesome. You do not necessarily need to be undereducated to be a bogan. It's a lifestyle choice. My daughter's boyfriend's mother is a huge bogan and she has a PhD. I like her a great deal.

As to being defensive over people with a "deep tan", that is mostly because of entrenched racism that permeates all echelons of our society. Such racism tends to go hand in hand with undereducation.

Behold. The paradox.

"I once sent my wife to see a psychologist!  She came back with a pair of bicycles.... said the guy said we needed more exercise.."

I said, "Yeah?  How the hell did you get to be the tax man?"
