Waleed Aly can't afford a house
Apr 28th, 2016 at 7:47am

Loved his graphs on affordability, if only he overlaid them over graphs of supply and demand and overseas buyers. Ooops.

Here's some financial advice, Wally.
Although you may not be able to afford your family dream home at this point of time, do some research and find an affordable property in a growth area.

Get an accountant to crunch the numbers to advise you on the max outgoings you can afford and buy the most expensive property with best rental potential based on those figures. Sit on that for about 5 years and if you've bought well and continued to save, you can either sell it and buy your dream home or use the equity for another investment.

Aly was in no mood to celebrate the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's unwavering support of the negative gearing status quo, having previously stated he rents his family home because he and his wife can't afford to buy in Richmond.

Saudi Arabia might have more affordable homes.

I don't care if he buys or not - it's his choice.  Not sure if he should be using "can't afford it" as a reason though, but I see there was no direct quote given for that.

I'm calling BS. He's a well-paid TV personality, so if he can't afford even a modest house, then he's doing something wrong with his money.

Waleed is in danger of suffering over exposure in the media and becoming a subject of public ridecule.

He seems to be the lefties Eddie Mcguire.

A true man is grounded in his work, grinding it out and "draws state from within"

A weak man (who has a womanly emotional state) is a people pleaser, constantly seeking attention, constantly checking his twitter or facebook for likes and needs the validation of "others" to pump his emotional state.

this is ungrounded and shakey.

he looks like a shakey guy.

a 3 month sabatical droving cattle with some real men could cure him of this misplaced feminine energy.

I guess you are right about the supply side of things. When all of the stock keeps getting recycled by house flippers who get generous tax concessions, little wonder there isn't any supply of housing left for genuine home owners Sad

so says the greedy old biddy who wants to sell her house to the highest foreign bidder whilst expecting prospective home owners to go to work and pay taxes to pay for her pension. Sounds like a good deal Sad

It's got nothing to do with house flippers you feckless ninny. Population growth has outstripped new dwelling completions for this entire century. Tampering with a few taxation rules won't fix this. One day the message will finally penetrate that thick skull.

Bright you are not very. Flipping works because there is demand.  Flipping and NG is the froth on top.
The meat and potatoes which drives growth for everything is supply and demand.  Say it 100 times please.

The unoccupied dwellings are not helping prices either , people buying up houses and not renting them out , they worked out there was a lot ( I think it was in vicinity of over 30000) this was in Melbourne alone , they made the connection because water consumption bills were under 50 dollars a year , which apparently is about what a leaking tap uses .
