At school I learned ( informally of course )

Captain Cook chased a chook all around Australia..
He hit a rock and bust his cock ( feathered) and landed in Tasmania.

I don't know why I learned that either.

Lord Herbert wrote on Mar 15th, 2016 at 9:17am:
Continental America was, of course, discovered by the Vikings.

Both North America and the Vikings were discovered by the Inuits, as evidenced by Inuit spoken history:

Quote:
...soon the kayaker sent out his spear in good earnest, and killed him on the spot...When winter came, it was a general belief that the Kavdlunait would come and avenge the death of their countrymen[

Kavdlunait = foreigner (Viking)

However, the word "discover" in this sense implies that the discoverer is civilised. The Vikings did have their literature in their favour.

Apart from that Eric the Red was about as civilised as Pope Sergius III (not very)
