Who has heard of the Somerton Man

Also known as the Taman Shud Case (nothing to do with the band).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taman_Shud_Case

A man was found dead on Somerton Beach in SA in 1948. He was never identified. All means of identification had been removed from his belongings.
There were suspicions of a Cold War link.
An intriguing case.

Distant relative of Piltdown Man.... was found to have the heart of a lion, the cunning of a weasel, the jawbone of an ass and forty thousand Philistines, as well as having the skull of a rat attached to a proto-hominid jaw....

If he was killed with poison why would he end up on a beach instead of being rowed out to sea for the sharks to finish off, or buried in the woods somewhere.

Some one wanted him to be found.

Or one organisation of people wanted another organisation of people to know he had been apprehended and killed.

And the codes and paper in his fob pocket? - All planted as a distraction for the police, the media, and the public to go chasing after.

I think the guy was the victim of a Mafia hit.

It is still on file as a cold case.
In these forensic days I wonder why they don't dig him up and see now whether they can identify traces of the mysterious poison. A better use for public funds I guess.

Yea I've read about that case, it is intriguing. I I think the last story I read about it suggested he may have been having an affair with a women who's child now suspects they are his offspring. With today's dna options maybe they should dig him up. They could ascertain where he came from by his dna, ie eastern Eropean.
