Great Story
Feb 11th, 2016 at 1:48pm

Parts of Sydney have been shut down to help Domenic Pace, aka "Iron Boy", fulfil his wish of rescuing someone from the clutches of an evil group of bad guys led by Ultron.

Domenic, who has cystic fibrosis, was granted his dream to be Iron Boy for a day by the Make-A-Wish charitable foundation.

The south-west Sydney schoolboy started his day off in a park where he was recruited to go on a secret mission in a joint project between the foundation and NSW Police

Iron Boy defeated Ultron's henchmen to rescue Make-A-Wish reporter Hope Joy from their evil clutches on Sydney's Clark Island shortly after noon.

But the mission continues this afternoon, with Iron Boy now hitting the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

Hundreds of members of the public have turned out to encourage him in his fight against the evil Ultron.

This morning NSW police chief Andrew Scipione himself called on the nine-year-old to help rescue Ms Joy and stop Ultron.

That is heartwarming, and I just love that photo! So cool.
And so many wonderful good people that make this happen. Thank goodness for that.
Go Iron Boy!

NOT, NOT, NOT, a Great Story.

I watched the item on the TV news.

Pathetic.

Teaching a sick child, that it is OK, to embrace lies and fantasy ?

For what ?

So as to 'stroke' that sick child's ego ?

For what ?

To give him the 'persona' of a faux hero ?

For what ?

WAKE UP WORLD.               Cheesy

You are living in a la la land.

Absolutely. I thought what a waste of resources, for one kid amongst many, they made his dream. What about the rest of them? What about the other kids that want to be a superhero? Where are their dreams?

Then I thought lies and fantasy! How dare they! Sad indeed, Yadda, I await the rapture when the chaff are blown away.

Didn't you ever pretend when you were a kid?

This is just a sick little boy who has more grief and pain in his life than he deserves playing 'let's pretend' for an afternoon. He had some help.

His pain and suffering are disproportionate so why shouldn't his joy be?

I say many blessings on all involved. I'll bet it did each and every one of them some good too.

The cost must have been massive though. Perhaps if it wasn't so extravagant a few more could have lived their dream.

I don't know that the cost would have been all that "massive". A few costumes. A few volunteers.

I've a fair amount of faith in Make-a-Wish to provide as many services as possible for sick kids as possible.

Cystic Fibrosis is a particularly nasty disease. Any joy this boy gets is ok by me.

Helicopters, police boats, police pay.

Yes it is.

At any cost and what about the others?

By the tax payer. Probably millions. Those are resources now not available for other MS suffers.

The TV networks did it for free, the reporters weren't paid. The maintenance of the police equipment and labour was donated.

I doubt it would be millions.

Again, i trust Make-A-Wish to provide special events for as many children as possible. I'm sure this was within their means.

But how much joy did it bring? Not just to the boy, not just to everyone involved but to the whole country. How can you put a price on that?

You can be assured it cost millions.

It brought no joy to me. It was an advert. He seems like a nice kid though, I'd be happy to have someone like him around.

You mean cystic fibrosis. That deserves advertising. The rest donated their services.

If it's an advert for anyone it's for Make-a-Wish ... which is money well spent, when you think about it.

So no police or tv people were paid? The networks broadcast it free? Prime time? The helicopter was no cost, the police boats? Donated by... The tax payer.

The money would have been better spent on research, what do they hope to gain from the exercise?

The networks would have been paid handsomely by advertisers. What price would you put on good news being on the news for a change?

I don't know if any police volunteered. The cost of helicopters and police boats is negligible. They are out there anyway, they just did something nice for a change.

How much income do you think this will generate for Make-a-Wish?

You could argue that about anything Make-a-Wish does. That is not what they do though. Other groups do that. This little boys whole life is taken up with that side of his illness.

What do they hope to achieve? A small boy's joy and a contagious sense of happiness, some good news for a change and much needed publicity for their cause. And some public awareness about cystic fibrosis. Hell even you keep saying MS.

If you truly feel that pursuing hedonism is a worthy and 'realistic' future for Australians, then perhaps you should start a movement to lobby the Commonwealth government to dispense free heroin 'hits' for people who are feeling down, and oppressed by the reality of life.   ???

Give some heroin 'hits' to that SF kid, and some for his parents too, and some for all of their friends.

Then everyone can 'feel better' together.

Did you consider,        .....how that young boy will feel like next week, when he realises that he can 'pretend' again, like did last week, that he is IRON BOY       .....but no-one will be there to give his ego a 'boost', like they did last week.

That young boy is riding a 'high' this week.

And in just a few days he will [likely] be in 'another' emotional place.

IMAGE....
...

What is portrayed in that image,     ....was all just a silly [government subsidised] 'heroin' hit.

So, why doesn't the government want to give us all a free heroin 'hit',   .....for everyone who is feeling down, and oppressed by the reality of their life ???

Police don't work for nothing, The maintenance crews don't work for nothing. Even if they are "out there anyway", that does not ameliorate the extra cost of running that equipment for the "out of phase" use of the aforementioned.

The whole exercise was simply a 'media event'.

The whole thing.

20% for the benefit of the sick boy.....

80% for the benefit of mainstream media, and for the 'do-gooder' organisers.

A media 'event'.

Police don't work for nothing, The maintenance crews don't work for nothing. Even if they are "out there anyway", that does not ameliorate the extra cost of running that equipment for the "out of phase" use of the aforementioned.

Yeah but that isn't running into millions, is it?

ANd anyway, you raise a good point regarding advertising.

Advertising for cystic fibrosis and advertising for the Make-a-Wish organisation.

Seems to me, considering a young boy and all involved were thrilled, that good energy spread through Sydney, that alot of people got to go home with a smile on their faces, like a very good investment.

I expect Make-a-Wish will see an increase in donations over coming weeks.

The whole exercise was simply a 'media event'.

The whole thing.

No. It wasn't simply that at all.

But even if it was, do you really have a problem with that? A good message got out to us, us who are so bombarded with negativity.

Something nice happened. Something heartwarming. If that isn't nice, i don't know what is.

If you truly feel that pursuing hedonism is a worthy and 'realistic' future for Australians, then perhaps you should start a movement to lobby the Commonwealth government to dispense free heroin 'hits' for people who are feeling down, and oppressed by the reality of life.   ???

I think you are overdosing on heroin. This is about giving a kid who's life has been full of pain, some good things to think about the next time he's suffering in hospital. Everyone knows it's not reality, including the kid.  You do realise that when people are in pain we give them pain killers? and have been doing so in some form or other for centuries, don't you?

What will you do if your kids come down with a terminal disease yadda? tell them 'tough, that's life ... deal with it", or will you perhaps try to make whats left of their life as memorable as possible.

Seriously some of you people need to get away from your computers if you think this was in any way a bad thing.

Nothing could be more truer than that!

How much does it cost for uncaring people that are wreckless with their lives, their good health, taking drugs, drinking to collapse, doing stupid dare devil stunts, driving with a car full of people, only to go out of control, kill and ruin others lives (this happened recently in Mt. Evelyn.....very upsetting situation).....with all the emphasis on trying to value life, and trying to message about respect for others, sharing the road etc.
only to have ambulance, police, fire trucks, have to utilize their services to the max for such wrecklessness?

So how much does all that cost at all times, our donations or taxes?

Simply, I am so pleased to see a positive use to "advertise" our resourses have a heart, to make aware of 'not for profit' organisations and their wonderful caring work, how fortunate the rest of us are, that are not sick to die so young.

So compared to how much our resourses are used to the max for all the other wreckless negativities of our youth that don't seem to appreciate their good health.....this heart warming event pales in significance re: any cost to all that.
