Toyota.

Subaru a close second.

Still, can't beat a Toyota.

Learnt to drive manual in a Hi-Lux. It's pretty hard to kill a Toyota.

I would pick the Forester for a city car... but I'm not overly impressed with their boxer motor...

too hard to work on and ive seen too many end up in the bin..

I don't see your logic in comparing the two cars in fact..

And I wouldn't have thought that either of them would be a perfect "city car".

On a different note, aren't Subarus rather thirsty when it comes to fuel consumption?

They are thirsty and the fixed priced servicing is a rip. That said i really rate tbe  boxer engine and the transmission is brilliant.

Ya gotta go the Subaru!  I had a Forester XLT a few years ago until I traded it in my my truck.  Loved that car!   Comfortable, well appointed and 0 - 60 K in 3 seconds!   Do yourself a favour if you buy one and use premium unleaded.   RAV 4 is a bit - shall we say - poofy - for a bloke.  Get a 'horn' car and buy the Subbie

I like the height. Bad back so getting in and out is easier. 95% in city but it's nice to have AWD for holidays so can go for a spin on the beach.

The RAV4 has surprisingly poo fuel economy too.  Only has a 50l tank, and you'll get 480 - 530km from it, depending on whether you have "Eco mode" enabled on it.

The 2015 Suby has that stop start thingy which improves the fuel economy.

Left yourself wide open there homo!

He is right though a really attractive car is now very much not. The rear of the current model looks awful.

IMO there is not much difference either should be OK, I would test one of each and see what you get and how much they cost.
