I disagree that offence taken is a choice.

So you think when men in Pakistan burn their female family members for honour, that their felt offence is given to them?

Hello left field.

I believe these men are truly misguided. I don;t believe ther offence is given to them (where did you get that from), i believe they are acting accordance with some seriously dodgy belief systems.

Now if somebody was to make a video game about honour killings, i would be offended. Wouldn't you?

Offence is taken. It's a personal choice.
99% of the time I choose not to as there is no point. 1% of the time I am Ian or Honky.

disagree. Offence is usually a response to srimuli.

So is a punch in the mouth. There is a choice.

I concede that there can be a choice, if the causal factor is scrutinised.

But in the example of whether or not i would be offended by a game scoring you on how many women you raped, that is not a choice. The response is purely visceral.

No. THe choice lies in how ou respond, not in how you perceive the assault.

Stimuli cannot be controlled, response can, offence is a responce.

As for WW2 games, i find them to be in poor taste but i refer to a previous point of mine. Where is the balance of power? Uf the game is exterminating Jews, homosexuals, Catholics, Gypsies and the physically and mentally disadvantaged, then i take strong exception. Fighting the dominating force leaves me unoffended.

It's about where the power is.

Arh, neo-Marxist/Foucauldian metaphysics, where you just have to be in the minority to be a 'victim' and therefore are justified in fighting the 'dominating force'. Of course, though, this trendy theory falls apart when Nazis, KKK, and other such grops are in the minority and therefore oppressed by a 'dominating force'.

Yes i  know. I know all too well.

In living memory.

Like the Balkans? What is living memory? The time you keep enmity alive?

I would object to a video game trivialising that too.

What's your point?

My point, I suppose, is that though I find the game, as presented in the media, a little offensive and very insensitive.
On the other hand, it's no worse than Cowdies and Indians, that's living memory too. If I know my darkie friends, they would just roll their eyes and move on.

I already said that cowboy vs Native Americans would be offensive.

I have some Aboriginal friends that would take it on the chin, others that would be highly offended. But i hang out with alot of activists.

Really ... I wouldn't have thought that obvious at all  Grin

Wut?

I'm not the one who has taken offence.

In fact, the worst thing I will do to anyone or anything who doesn't threaten me, is ignore them.  Contrast that with the perpetually offended left, who actively seek things to be offended about, and then attempt to have them banned, and ruin those associated with it.

I ask you - which mindset and preferred course of action is more accurately summarised by the word "tolerance?"

Good point, Mistie, you’ve been teaching from that sociology textbook again.

Yes, Nazis and KKKs have become the downtrodden races. That’s the level the lefties have brought us to.

So unfair. Why can’t we just respect alternative views and learn from each other?

I think you have taken that the wrong way. I meant that 99% of the time people can say whatever they like and I don't get offended, sometimes though someone might just get thick lip if they are in my face and push too far. I have for instance decked someone for talking poo about my wife to me.
