The Philosophy of Liberty: Watch it

This is probably the best explanation of what liberty is. It isn't long and if you watch it we can discuss what rights are.

If it takes 8 minutes to explain Liberty it is a travesty.

I guess it would take a lot longer than eight minutes to get it to penetrate your skull though

That they were able to condense it into only 8 minutes is amazing, especially with the level of detail.

When all else fails, post a lengthy youtube video of someone parroting the same idiotic propaganda as you.

In his other thread Lafayette spent 30 pages trying to argue that gun laws are ineffective ("criminals will ignore the law and get one anyway" and all the other NRA-approved soundbites) before finally admitting he does not care whether they are ineffective and would still oppose gun laws even if they achieved a 100% reduction inc rime rate. The right o own a gun is more important.

Of course he still insists gun laws are ineffective. He just uses the "don't care" line to avoid admitting he was wrong, no matter how painfully obvious it is.

He also insists that the right to own guns is timeless and universal, then uses the US constitution and the time and context it was written in to flesh out what it actually means. He thinks we have a human right to own whatever "arms" we can carry, but this excludes high explosives, chemical weapons, dirty nukes etc, because they are neither conventional nor unconventional. When I asked what they were, all I got is a blank stare.

And a youtube video.

It takes time to penetrate the skulls of conservative cretins. Morse code with a baseball bat is usually quicker and takes less than 8 minutes.

It never ceases to amaze me how most Australians don't understand the concept of rights. As if rights are somehow given to them by the State, and if the state takes them away, then oh well, they were good while we had them..

It's really disappointing. It's the main reason I left. I just didn't fit in there amongst all of the idiocy.

Now I see your first comment was only accidental wisdom.

John Locke (extract)for Dummies.
27. Though the Earth, and all inferior Creatures be common to all Men, yet every Man has a Property in his own Person. This no Body has any Right to but himself. The Labour of his Body, and the Work of his Hands, we may say, are properly his.
