Cars are just as dangerous as motorcycles, and trucks also.
It's just that on motorbikes, the rider comes undone more easily than those with more metal protection around their bodies as in a car.
Trouble is, many car drivers do not see the motorcyclists.
That is why they had a slogan, I can't remember it, something like looking out for motorcyclist riders.
Haven't seen that slogan for a while, yet it is more necessary than ever IMO....with more vehicles on the road than ever, and more bike riders, and more idiots with their idiot phones and under the influence of ice or whatever they ingest and get in a car and drive on the road, thinking they won't get caught.
I have my motorcycle licence, I should cancel it, but it's there with my car licence, boat and jet ski licence.
When I was in my early 20's I had a Honda SL 125, and the thing I noticed, was how car drivers would not see me, and drive out in front of me from the left side of the intersection, I had a fast brake reaction, at all times!
It just put me off, and I decided not to bother riding on the roads anymore after so many near misses.
And at night was scary, because, in the area I lived in, market gardeners would drop stuff accidentally on the road from their trucks, like wooden boxes, only to see it when the headlight of my bike was nearly upon it and too late for me to avoid it, closed my eyes, lifted my feet, and ploughed through it, wobbled the bike, and expecting to fall off, I didn't...what a dam miracle that was.
And the last time I ever rode on the road.
People said they saw splintered wood all over the road next day.
Lucky I wasn't splintered.
So you can imagine, the hubby got a Harley, but rode with others, so in numbers, with the loud rumbling sounds, they are noticed, but I am so glad we sold the bike.
Got a classic car instead
My son mentions he wants a Harley to ride, and I keep saying NOOOOOO, and he asks why not, dad had one
And I said that's different, he is old, and hardly ever used it anyway, with our summers being so short, and friends not always available for rides on weekends due to other stuff happening.
It isn't so much fun as one thinks like that.
My father's brother, was 27 yrs old, and he died on a motorbike, the night before his wedding.
So yeah, we know about it and the risks associated with it.
Got to love the old solid classic 1959 Caddy we have now....so damned big and safe!!
Even the Harley riders stop to admire it
