The Debate - Russia -Turkey Row (Nov 24th)

The first time a NATO member has downed a Russian plane in a half-century. Turkey has shot down a Russia jet, and the two pilots were reportedly killed. What will be the fallout of this, coming at this sensitive time on the war on Syria? In this edition of the debate, we’ll discuss what possible motives Turkey would have by this act, and how this would impact the Vienna talks held over Syria crisis, and France’s push for coordinated action with Russia against the Deash terrorists.

1. A serious escalation between these 2 countries: the first time a NATO member has downed a Russian plane in a half-century. The two pilots were reportedly killed.

2. The shooting down of a Russian warplane is a "new crime" that will be added to the record of insurgent groups and the countries that finance and arm them.

3. German Foreign Minister Steinmeier says hopes Turkey's downing of Russian warplane won't be setback to Syria peace talks.

4. U.S.-led coalition operations in Syria and Iraq are continuing "as planned? - This is an incident between the Russian and the Turkish governments. It is not an issue that involves the (U.S.-led coalition operations)

5. President Vladimir Putin calls Turkey's downing of a Russian fighter jet a stab in the back administered by "the accomplices of terrorists," saying the incident would have serious consequences for Moscow's relations with Ankara.

6. Stoltenberg, the head of the NATO military alliance of which Turkey is a member. "Need to avoid escalation #Turkey #Russia,"

7. The shooting down comes at an awkward time as French President Francois Hollande tries to include Russia in a coalition to take on the Daesh terror group in Syria and Iraq in the wake of the deadly Paris attacks of November 13

Russian airstrikes destroy 472 terrorist targets in Syria in 48 hours, 1,000 oil tankers in 5 days

Russian airstrikes have torched more than 1,000 tankers taking stolen crude oil to Islamic State refineries. This blow against the jihadists comes as the Russian Air Force has hit 472 terrorist targets in two days in Syria, making 141 sorties.

Russian anti-terror op in Syria
All Russian aircraft have successfully returned to the Khmeimim airbase near Latakia, Major General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, said in a daily briefing.

Russian airplanes have destroyed over 1,000 ISIS tankers with crude oil in the last five days, Konashenkov added. Sukhoi Su-34 bombers also hit a terrorist-controlled oil refinery some 50 kilometers south of Raqqa, the unrecognized capital of the Islamic State terrorists.

Russia began counterterrorist operation in Syria on September 30, after Moscow received an official request from Syrian President Bashar Assad. Initially, the military operation was conducted by a task force of more than 50 aircraft and helicopters, including the Sukhoi Su-34 and Su-24M bombers, Su-25 attack aircraft, Su-30SM fighters and Mil Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters. Last week, a decision was made to bolster the strike group with 37 new planes, including long-range aircraft carrying out sorties from Russian airfields.

Russia’s Caspian Flotilla ships also delivered two massive cruise missile strikes on ISIS targets in Syria using Kalibr NK ship-born cruise missiles, on October 7 and on November 20. A Russian submarine operating in the Mediterranean also delivered missile strike on ISIS, also using Kalibr cruise missiles.

Turkey Threatened Putin ‘Stop Bombing ISIS’ Days Before Jet Shoot Down

Posted on November 24, 2015 by Paul Joseph Watson

Ankara warned of “serious consequences” if Moscow continued campaign against Islamic State

...

Turkey shot down a Russian Su-24 fighter jet it claimed had violated Turkish airspace just days after threatening Moscow with “serious consequences” if it continued bombing ISIS in Syria.

The plane was flying at an altitude of 6,000m (19,685ft) when it was shot down by the Turkish military before subsequently crashing on Syrian territory.

Russian President Vladimir Putin later called the act a “stab in the back by accomplices of terrorism.”

The incident occurred just days after Turkish officials warned Russia to “immediately end its operation” against ISIS after warplanes bombed border regions.

Ankara is unhappy that civilians belonging to the Turkmen population, which is staunchly anti-President Assad, will flee to Turkey and create a new refugee influx.

Charges that Russia is targeting anti-Assad rebels also prompted Turkey to summon Russian ambassador Andrey Karlov for crisis talks.

Shooting down the Russian jet may be a dangerous form of payback for Vladimir Putin’s two month bombardment of ISIS.

Although a NATO member country, a deluge of evidence suggests that Turkey is in fact allied with ISIS and has helped the terror organization by providing safe passage and financing via black market oil sales.

$800,000,000 worth of ISIS oil has been sold in Turkey, a supposed U.S. ally. ISIS trucks are routinely allowed to cross back and forth between the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa and Turkey.

As Nafeez Ahmed documents, a large cache of intelligence recovered from a raid on an ISIS safehouse this summer confirms that “direct dealings between Turkish officials and ranking ISIS members was now ‘undeniable.’”

The senior western official who made this revelation also added that Turkey is allied with Ahrar al-Sham and Jabhat al-Nusra, two Al-Qaeda offshoots in Turkey who are fighting to topple Assad.

A former ISIS communications technician also told Newsweek that part of his job was to, “Connect ISIS field captains and commanders from Syria with people in Turkey on innumerable occasions.”

ISIS commanders told us to fear nothing at all because there was full cooperation with the Turks,” he said.

Although flight radar data appears to show that the Russian jet did violate Turkish airspace, some have pointed out that given the speed of the jet, it could have only crossed into Turkey for a period of around nine seconds, suggesting that the decision to shoot down the plane was a massive overreaction.

Russia’s turkey airspace violation lasted 17 seconds: WikiLeaks Tue Nov 24, 2015

WikiLeaks says Turkey sent a letter to the UN after shooting down a Russian Su-24 jet stating that it violated Turkish air space for 17 seconds.

According to the leaked letter addressed to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, aircraft with “unknown” nationality “violated Turkish national airspace to a depth of 1.36 miles and 1.15 miles in length for 17 seconds from 9:24:05 local time,” RT reported on Tuesday.

The letter, sent by Turkish UN Ambassador Yasar Halit Cevik, claims that the jets were called upon “10 times during a period of five minutes via ‘emergency’ channels” to alter their course.

Cevik said that one of the planes left Turkish airspace, but “plane two was fired at while in Turkish airspace by Turkish F-16s,” which resulted in its crash on the Syrian side of the Turkish-Syrian border.

Russia denies all of Turkey’s claims maintaining that the jet was downed in Syrian airspace where Russia has been carrying out operations against the Daesh Takfiri terrorists since September 30 upon a request by the Damascus government.

Based on radar imaging from Russia’s Hmeymim base in Syria, the Turkish jet actually violated Syrian airspace to attack the Russian jet.

According to Russia’s General Staff, one of the pilots was killed by ground fire after ejecting from the plane and a rescue operation is under way to find the other pilot.

(CNN)Turkish forces shot down a Russian plane near the Turkish-Syrian border on Tuesday, dangerously escalating a conflict that is expanding ever more rapidly and unpredictably.

Take a step back and look at what Syria's war has wrought: Only days after the Paris attacks -- one of the worst terrorist attacks on European soil since World War II -- and with the unofficial capital of the European Union, Brussels, still under a partial lockdown, a member of NATO downed a Russia fighter jet.

If this had occurred during the Cold War, we would be bracing for the possibility of a nuclear war. Thankfully, that conflict is over. Instead of dialing nuclear codes, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council while NATO summoned its own emergency meeting.

Russia won't attack turkey militarily, but turkey are buggered nonetheless.

They rely on Russian gas and tourism and export most of their goods to russia - not anymore.  The asshole erdogan has sold his country out for his own oil business.

Turkey Shoot: NATO State Escalates Conflict as It Funds ISIS

MATT DRUDGE: 'AMERICA HAS BEEN ARMING ISIS'

Rare tweet by media giant alludes to sinister Obama policy
Published: 9 hours ago

Matt Drudge’s first tweet in months came with a cryptic message: “A shocking truth is unfolding: America has been arming ISIS.”

The Obama administration has been plagued for weeks over news U.S. weapons supplied to Syrian rebels were inadvertently winding up in the hands of terror groups. The media giant’s tweet on Tuesday alludes to something far more sinister.

Major media outlets covered the ineptitude of Obama’s U.S.-trained rebels in early November, but there was no evidence he purposefully sent weapons to terror networks determined to attack America.

“Moderate rebels who had been armed and trained by the United States either surrendered or defected to the extremists as the Jabhat al-Nusra group, affiliated with al-Qaida, swept through the towns and villages the moderates controlled in the northern province of Idlib, in what appeared to be a concerted push to vanquish the moderate Free Syrian Army, according to rebel commanders, activists and analysts,” the Washington Post reported Nov. 2.

Like the reporting you see here? Sign up for free news alerts from WND.com, America’s independent news network.

Similar military debacles have occurred in Iraq, where security forces in Ramadi retreated in May when confronted by ISIS attackers.

Dozens of U.S. military vehicles, including tanks, were taken into the terror group’s possession after the Iraqis’ defeat.

“We will see episodic, temporary successes, but again these typically don’t materialize into long-term gains,” Brig. Gen. Thomas Weidley, chief of staff of the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, said May 15, Agence France-Presse reported.

Drudge’s tweet coincides with recurring charges that U.S. Central Command analysts were pressured to supply intelligence reports on ISIS that matched Obama’s rhetoric.

...
Media mogul Matt Drudge accused the Obama administration of arming ISIS on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015
Gregory Hooker, a former senior intelligence officer at Centcom, accused senior commanders last month of doctoring terror risk assessments to look unrealistically optimistic, the New York Times reported Sept. 23. Hooker previously accused the Bush administration of doing the exact opposite in 2005.

“This core group of Iraq analysts have been doing this for a long time,” said Stephen Robb, a retired Marine colonel and a former head of the Centcom Joint Intelligence Center, the newspaper reported. “If they say there’s smoke, start looking for a firehouse.”

“Impeachable Offenses” presents an indictment of Barack Obama that goes well beyond today’s headlines. Order it today at WND’s Superstore.

President Obama denied the charges once again on Sunday prior to flying back to Washington from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“I don’t want intelligence shaded by politics. I don’t want it shaded by the desire to tell a feel-good story. We can’t make good policy unless we’ve got good, accurate, hard-headed, clear-eyed intelligence,” Obama said as his nine-day trip to the Turkish Riviera and Southeast Asia ended.

Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency during President Obama’s tenure, told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly on Monday that Obama’s investigation into faulty intelligence assessments should begin with a look in the mirror.

“The president sets the priorities and he’s the number one customer. So if he’s not getting the intelligence he needs and if he’s not paying attention to what else is going on, then something else is wrong there between them and the advisers he has,” Flynn said, the Weekly Standard reported.

Russian Specialists Involved in Syria Intercepting Turkish Jet, Sources Say
Diplomatic sources talking to the Sunday Times say Syria shot down the Turkish plane to warn NATO not to intervene in the Syrian conflict.

Haaretz, Reuters and The Associated Press
Jul 01, 2012 8:34 AM

Russian technicians were involved in the taking down of the Turkish fighter jet by the Syrian military last week, the Sunday Times reported on Sunday.
Sourcing Middle Eastern diplomatic sources the Times reported that the decision to down the Turkish jet was intended to signal a warning to NATO to stay out of the conflict raging in Syria for over a year.
Russia supplied Syria with advanced anti-aircraft missile systems three years ago. It is believed that Russian specialists trained the Syrian forces to use them. According to diplomats that spoke with the Sunday Times some Russian specialists are still stationed at the missile battery control centers.
“We would not be surprised if these Russian experts, if they didn’t push the button, at least were beside the Syrian officers who did it,” an Israeli air force source told the British paper.

Ankara defends ISIS, Turkish officials have financial interest in oil trade with group - PM Medvedev

Published time: 25 Nov, 2015 06:53
Edited time: 25 Nov, 2015 09:19

...

Some Turkish officials have ‘direct financial interest’ in the oil trade with the terrorist group Islamic State, Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev said as he detailed possible Russian retaliation to Turkey’s downing of a Russian warplane in Syria on Tuesday.

“Turkey’s actions are de facto protection of Islamic State,” Medvedev said, calling the group formerly known as ISIS by its new name. “This is no surprise, considering the information we have about direct financial interest of some Turkish officials relating to the supply of oil products refined by plants controlled by ISIS.”

“The reckless and criminal actions of the Turkish authorities… have caused a dangerous escalation of relations between Russia and NATO, which cannot be justified by any interest, including protection of state borders,” Medvedev said.

According to the PM, Russia is considering canceling several important projects with Turkey and barring Turkish companies from the Russian market. Russia has already recommended its citizens not to travel to Turkey, citing terrorist threats, resulting in several tourist operators withdrawing tours to Turkey from the market.
